I saw George Lynch last night, and was talking to him after the show...
He used a '59 Fender Esquire for a third of his set, through an old Marshall Plexi... He loved that axe.. it was a gift...
He asked me what I thought of the tone, and I told him I liked his tone w/ the Les Paul's a helluva...
RECORDING Magazine just came out w/ their "Special Mic" edition... Anyone else seen it?? Big surprise... they seem to love every mic they reviewed!!! (also weird... there was an ad for every mic they reviewed, right there in the magazine!! What a coincidence!!!!!!!!!)
Plus $20 for shipping... no tax outside NY..
That seems to be a hell of a deal for an 88 key ctouch sentive controller... Just thought I'd share...
Serious players may not like it, but it's great for a guitar playing Home Studio guy like me!!!
I think I've narrowed my choices for a controller down to these 2....
I know the differences in features, but would like to hear some more opinions...
What I don't know is difference in build quality/reliability. This is important, because I'll be buying either one used, and nobody seems to...
Just rec'd my 20Gb 4G iPod as an Xmas gift to myself...
Does anyone have any recommendations for an "up-graded" earphone set?
I'd like to keep it under $75, and don't want full headphones.
Thanks!! Merry Christmas to All!!!!

I don't currently record real drum sets.
I may in the future, and have a question regarding overhead mics.
I have a matched pair of MXL 603s that I could use, but I hear they are rather bright on cymbals.
Here's my question... Can I take the bright edge off of these by using foam windscreens...
I just tried buying the HM-1 mic at http://www.kelaudio.com/
(He replied that he will try to send me a link to complete the purchase by week's end... ) Apparently, the owner of the company (Kelly Dueck) is a poster here.
Has anyone heard this mic other than the sound clips? He touts...

Guitar String Legend Ernie Ball Dies in California
Sat Sep 11, 7:33 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Guitar string maker Ernie Ball, famed for strings that almost single-handedly allowed rock groups in the 1960s to play wailing...
This was just a goof I threw together... the performance is first take, and the parts were written as I went.
I had no lyrics, and I'm not a singer, so I borrowed....
I may have had a few too many beers, but I think it's kind of funny...

If you think it sucks, I don't...
I know the Central Station is all the rage right now, but some folks don't need all it has to offer...
I am using a TC-37 switcher/selector that lets me switch my control room outs to 3 sources. I use it to route to:
1.) Powered Event monitors
2.) Off (for tracking vocals in the same room...
After mistakenly toasting my second set of tweeters in my Event monitors (see my other post in the 'Other Equipment' forum for details) , I was on the phone w/ Event, asking about the possibility of using a fuse to protect the tweeters.
They (Josh, good guy...) suggested that I try a limiter...
For the second time this year... I toasted my tweeters in my Event Trias... The triamped PS-5's w/ subwoofer...)
At least I think I did....
Last time, I sent a 20kHz test tone to my speakers, and 1 tweeter smoked.... I could smell it... Bad... Replacement $39 plus shipping...
This time, I...
I have an RNC... and really like it.... (on pretty much everything but bass....)
I just got an Ashly CL-100 compressor that works exceptionally well on bass. I haven't used it on anything else... Price paid? $30 on eBay.
The manual that it came with states that it's the same compressor...
I'm hoping someone who owns one can tell me if they get warm/hot...
I have 1 coming, and need to now if I should leave a space above it in the rack... (I'm running low on empty spaces...)
I know there's some tubes in there, but that doesn't really mean much if they're fed just 9 volts... :D...
I'm looking to add something to my gearlist that will add some "color" to vocals, acoustic guitar, etc...
I currently have a rather "clean" signal path, a number of "non-tube" mics, condensers and dynamics, Symetrix sx-202 preamp to an RNC compressor into my Delta 44 and computer....

I know this is a mic forum, but thought that the thread below would be of tremendous interest to anyone wanting to know more about mic preamps. It really helps to "clear the smoke..." regarding this somewhat mysterious topic.
Some of you might have seen it before, but for those of us who...
A while back, there was a thread where people posted what's in their studio. It was pretty interesting, but died off, and now doesn't seem to allow posting responses.
So, beings that I just had to type up a full list for insurance purposes, I thought I'd throw it out there, and see if anyone...
