I'm working on building a computer now with and Athlon XP 1500 processor and probably an ECS K7S5A motherboard. This computer is going to be part of my rack and only used for recording. What I'm wondering is there any good cheap video card that I can get that doesn't use up too much system...
So, I heard this band called Kittie do a ridiculous cover of a pink floyd song. It has been playing on the radio and they use some kind of distortion to make the singers vocals sound more hardcore. Anybody know what they are doing?
So, I'm using Sonar on my computer right now with Windows ME as an OS. Is the upgrade to XP worth it? How about just going with windows 2000? Can anybody tell me the benefits/disadvantages of each?
Does anybody know if you can get laptop hard drives that spin at 7200 rpms? I have a firewire HD for my laptop but it would be nice to have a faster internal HD as well.
Hey all,
I just wanted to let people know that you can get really good discounts on software like Sonar and Cubase through an academic discount. I just recently took advantage of this and thought it was great. You can take advantage of this if you are a teacher, student, college student, or...
Does anybody know of any online loop libraries with good loops? Either free loops or ones that let you preview a really bad quality loop and pay to download. I just don't want to buy a $100.00 CD that has only a few loops that I like.
I am having trouble recording from the stereo input on my MOTU 828. When I record in Sonar it only shows up in the right stereo field wavefrom and I can only monitor it through my right ear in headphones. I can get stereo if I record two tracks simultaneously one recording the right input and...
I just recently bought a MOTU 828 and have been running it with a lot of demo software on my PC. I'm not that interested in MIDI but I'm sure I'll have use for it in the future. I'm having a hard time deciding between Sonar, Vegas, and Cubase. I just wanted other people's input on this...
I've heard that you can get a PCI card adaptor/case for laptops so you could use a regular sized desktop PCI card. I've also heard that they were very expensive. Does anybody know who makes these? I couldn't find them on a google search.

I'm wondering just how good firewire is? I've got a pentium 800 laptop and a mackie 1604 vlz pro mixer. I was thinking about getting the MOTU 828 and possibly a firewire hard drive. I'm mainly interested in recording small rock groups. I thought this would be cool because I can use the 828...
I was just wondering what the differences were between the AKG 1000B, 2000B, and 3000B (besides the price). I've heard they are pretty good and needed a good microphone for studio vox and other rock band applications besides my sure SM 57s. I was wondering what people's opinions were on the...
Does anybody know how good the preamps are on the new Aardvark Direct pro Q10? I am contemplating whether to get that with cakewalk or a Mackie 1604 VLZ pro and a delta 10/10. My price range is $1,000-2,000. I have a Pentium III 500 computer running windows 98 with 192 Mb of SDRAM. I would...
Anybody have any idea where to get the best price on Event 20/20 monitors? I've heard such good reviews from everbody that I would like to get a pair. Thanks.
Does anybody know about the MOTU 1296? I'm wondering whether the preamps are going to be quality enough without a mixer. I sure would like to get somthing with 12 inputs but I can't afford a 1296 and a mixer.
I was just wondering if there is any benefit to having all XLR inputs when you are recording using mostly mics or if TRS inputs (using XLR to TRS 1/4 inch jacks) were just as good.
