Guys, I had an ADAT crap out on me again tonight. (2822 hours of head wear, I don't think so - internals went to hell) -
So I want to look at some of the internal hard disk based recording systems that can be rack mounted and hooked up to an analog board, like the Mackie HDR/96 (sp?) - The...
I bought an Lexicon MPX 1 and MPX100 yesterday, expecting to have a couple of good effect units for my studio. I thought I'd use the cheap one for simple stuff, like a snare plate or something, and the nicer one for the big stuff.
Well, the MPX100 stinks. I can't feed a signal into it without...
Having read Sonusman's post and being thourghly awed (what the hell took you so long - man???? Now I've got to remaster everything on my new album!! - just kidding :) ) - I must impart my stupid little thing I do (sometimes I'm forced to, thanks to my stupid monitoring room right now) :(
I...
Well, I finally got the drummer and the Mics together, and we're having fun. I'm having one tiny bit of a problem though. I'm using Oktava MC012's on the overheads, (two of them) - a Shure SM81 on the high hat, and an SM57 for the snare. (Bass drum is an akg, but that's irrelevant) -

Well, I got a steal on a second ADAT XT20 (only about $1000) - but it made my new Yamaha board limited - it can't really handle 16 channels that well, esp. with only one digital I/O card - so I had to return it. Besides, I HATED the way it EQ'd/preamped stuff.
So I'm debating what to do next...
Talking to the guy at the Sound-room while ordering my matched pair of MC012's, and he said the Shure SM56 was a good mic for snare drums.
Now, I may be ignorant here, but I've never heard of an SM56. (of course, I know the SM57, but that's neither here or now) - He thought they might be...
Last of the mic purchases, I hope. I've got a good bass drum mic for the drummer, and I've considered both the NT2 and Oktava 012 for the drums. I'm thinking of getting two NT2's for overheads (and they'll double for vocals/acoustic guitars) and two Octava MC012's for the high-hat and snare (I...
Hi guys. I've got a Les Paul I use for most of my rock and roll, but because of style/preference, I keep the action really low, and I'm thinking of grabbing a second guitar for backups/detunings/ and so forth.
What I'd really like to do is experiment with slide guitar and textures the way a...
Here's something I tried with my some of my new equipment for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Not the best vocal in the world, but I"m trying to highlight the song, so no big deal. WARNING!!! ACOUSTIC SONG - NO SHREADING HERE!!!!

OK - let me preface this by saying I am a guitar player, not a piano player. Only had 6 months of lessons as a kid, so my knowledge of stuff like MIDI, etc, is kaput.
Now, I'm trying to add a piano part to a song. My ex-friend had an Alesis Q6, which had a fairly realistic piano sound on it...
Does anyone know a decent priced reverb unit that has that warm reverb on it like the kind I get with the POD preamp (a la Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska")
I need to get a couple of units for my home studio, and while I could continue using the POD (or even get a rack mounted pod) - I'd like...
Anyone else besides me notice that the Aux. Send/return setup on the Studio 32 is kinda whaco? The sends are mono, but the returns are Stereo.
I was trying to put a strange effect on a guitar that I have panned hard left, but I can't get the Aux returns to do anything but go hard center. So...
Well, like Sonusman, I seem to have come into a tiny bit of good fortune in the coming months, and I have a lot of discretionary income in the next few months. (translation: - High paying job with no wife/kids/exwife/ to support) - I've been blessed
Now, I have an Alesis XT20 I'm pulling out...
So, like an experienced Home Recording BBS surfer, I went to the archives, and figured out the the most widely recommended monitors I should be looking at (to replace the ex-bass player's M1 Actives) are Event 20/20's. Now my question is this - Any reason I should take the unpowered (and...
Hi Guys - I've added to this discussion in the past, but now I need new input.
I'm using a line 6 floorboard with my POD. The distortion switch isn't a clean/dirty switch, but rather a less/more distortion switch. I'd write a new patch and just bounce to it, but it doesn't feel too smooth...
I saw the Stereophonics and Charlatans UK last night. Sounded great. It made me think about all the current British bands that I like and what they're using for gear - I'm kind of looking for trends and how they get that almost distinctive wall of fuzz sound. I've determined that Vox and...
I read a quote recently where GBV frontman Rob Pollard said you could make a living as an underground band. As a point, he got $100000 from Matador to record their first major label album, and they did it for $10 - (and when he quit his job, he was making $35K a year - you do the math) - You...
I hope everyone gets a chance to read this (In fact I'm thinking of crossposting it) - Salon has written a really good article on Napster and the ARTIST!! (who the hell are they? Aren't they those guys caught in the pissing contest between the public and record companies?)
This has been...
