I spent all my hard earned money on an RNC yesterday and I took it home and my band recorded and....I swear to god it does nothing. We used it for bass and vocals, and there was absolutely no difference in the sound. The only difference between the bypass and when the signal was being...
I'm recording my band next week and my bass player just got a new bass, an Ibanez SGR800 or something like that. Supposedly, it has active pickups. Does this have any effect on how I am planning on recording it (DI thru Blue Tube into four track). Thanks a lot..
I don't get it....It always seems like when you are working with 1/4 cables, you always want to get them into XLR and when you're working with XLR, you always want to get it in 1/4. Why not just make cables that have both ends that would do it for you?
I have a Tascam 414 mkii and i just learned how to do backwards stuff (turn tape over, record, turn back over) and i was wondering how i could record a backwards guitar solo to recorded music. how would i be able to play the solo to the song backwards? where would the beginning and end of the...
im recording my band next friday and realized i didn't know what to do about the cassette tapes!!! i have a tascam 414 mkii and i know there is a pitch control fuction. I have heard that if you record at the highest pitch, you get the best sound. Now, if I record at the highest pitch on 60 min...
I was at a local music supply store recently and a thing called a Drum Dial caught my eye. I asked the guy at the desk and he told me all about how it tunes your drums for you and is precise. Anyone have any comments on this seemingly uknown piece of gear? (Sounds like a recording studio...
I'm getting ready to record my rock band on my Tascam 414 mkii. I am trying to decide which thing to do. I was thinking of either internally bouncing tracks, usually only two at a time, like guitar and bass to one track. But, I read external is much better. All I have to do that with is a...
If I do mono drums on my tascam 414, am i going to lose a lot of the punch of the bass drum and sheen of the cymbals? what's going to happen? i am so so so scared everyone so scared
What would be the best kind of standalone cd-burner that i could hook my tascam 414 portastudio to for mastering? preferably under $300...
is there really a sound difference between the really expensive ones and the cheaper, philips ones?
My band is ready to buy a compressor. It would probably be used mostly for bass, maybe kick drum, vocals, possibly guitars. I have never used a compressor before and we are only recording on a Tascam 414 portastudio. I realize that the RNC is probably a technically better compressor, but i like...
I was thinking about my four track and recording and life and girls...and i was wondering what the problem with recording in mono on four tracks is? no one ever seems to want to do it, always panning everything all over the damn place, but would the sound really suffer that much if it was in...
My band is ready to record a ska song that we play that has a trombone and trumpet. I was wondering if it was the standard thing to do to overdub the horns after the guitar, bass, drums are already down? If not, when and how do you normally record them?
Currently I own a Tascam 414 portastudio, but I am really interested in getting something with 8 tracks. Since 8 track cassette doesn't seem to be the best option, i was looking at the yamaha md8. Does anyone know if this is any good? If not, what is better?
I am really interested in buying the Tascam 488. Is it any good? Also, could I use my tascam 414 as a mixer for the drums to go into before it goes to the 488 and use the line outs so it goes into two channels of the 488? Also, how compatible are these two machines with each other? What kinds of...
I've been hearing a lot about all the beatles recordings where they were doing something to their four tracks which made a single recorded sound repeat itself over and over and over again. How do you do this on a Tascam 414 Portastudio four track?
I recorded my band on my Tascam 414 the other day: 1 channel for acoustic guitar through my behringer mixer, and vocals and harp through blue tube. I recorded them all at once into my recorded using all 1/4 into it. I was listening to it today and realized the whole sound is totally unbalanced...
How did bands like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin record that overdriven harmonica sound in songs like Midnight Rambler, When The Levee Breaks, etc.?
