I am going to be recording soon, just like to know what you guys do. I'm thinking I'm going to go with an X-Y pattern with my two Oktava MK012s... about how far should I place them away from the guitar? Should I even do the X-Y pattern? Would one mic suffice? I don't know... there are probably...

I have a cabinet. I want to record both clean guitar and distorted guitar for a rock style sound/genre. I know the cab must be off the ground on a wooden surface. I have that covered. I know the mic technique for placing it off axis off to the side of one of the cone's. I will be using an SM57...

If I tap on the outer screen when it's recording, it picks up the tap and the sound of the metal, but if I try to speak through it or record an instrument... it just doesn't work... believe me... I have checked my mic pre's, my cords, my sound card, and everything else... it is definitely my mic...

and on top of that... I'm sure most can determine what really is good or not regardless of their personal preference of style in music... why don't we help each other out? just a thought.

anytime I double track a distorted guitar and pan each one say... 50% or even 100% left and right, I hear this static.... that I don't hear with just one track of guitar (it's very subtle too). has anyone else had this problem? any solution? I am going for that weezer sound with distortion...

can anyone post a clip of a good bass sound? bass guitar that is. I can record it properly with DI, but I'm not sure what type of EQ if any I need to use and how much reverb I should add, etc. I know it depends a great deal on the mix, but just a starting point would help.

took me a few days, but I did what you guys said: detuned the kick, added more dampening, and stuck the b1 up pretty close... this is what came of it... thanks for all your help... is there anything else that needs to be done aside from start recording *good* tracks instead of muddling around to...
