    Motown\Gospel techniques

Okay, I'm recording a cover for my cousin (female vocalist), which is a bit of a departure for me. The song is an old track by The Staple Singers, called 'The Ghetto'. It's a lush gospel number with a simple but uplifting string arrangment, which I am going to try and reproduce (with the help...

Techies ? Can I pick your brains ?

Hi all, long time no post. I don’t get much web-time these days unfortunately, hope this finds everybody well. Heres my problem: I was running out of disk space for recording projects, so I started planning a tidy up operation.. After some thought I decided to rebuild my machine. I had a dual...

    Heres a Song...

...that I recorded with a good friend of mine. The chord structure and lyrics are his. It's a 'thank you' for the inspirational music left by a band that seems to be universally loved. I'm sure it won't be too hard to guess which one. www.nowhereradio.com Artist name Alan Butler (it's the...

    Hey Waldo ?

I'm going to be setting up a new artist account with your site this evening or tommorrow evening, I can't remember whether you said direct linking from the clinic was a no-no fullstop, or if there was some jiggery-pokery to make it easier than just posting [Artist Name] [Song Name]... Could you...

Jitter ? Word Clock ? ADDA Converters

Okay, I've just been looking at the Lucid converters. Pretty sexy, but could someone address these dumb questions: Q1 Could you explain the term Jitter ? Q2 Word Clock ? Q3 Say I bought one of these (which won't happen yet 'cos I don't understand what they do fully) would my Delta 44 have...

How I got a bigger kick drum sound...

The recorded sound of our drummers kick drum has been one of the most frustrating things about tracking since I started recording our first demos. Up until a couple of days ago I was using a Sennheiser (e602 ? the big bass drum one anyway) at an angle to the beater and about 4" back, along with...

    Dual-boot

I have a dual boot with W2k and 98, due to lack of 24-bit support for my Delta 44 under W2k. My installation folder under 2K is c:\coolpro and under 98 it's simply c:\coolpro98. I have just started using this setup last night and got some pretty weird problems, which I won't go into just now...

Anybody have an opinion on this amp...

and cabinet before I hammer my poor credit card... http://www.thdelectronics.com/products/index.html I remember Sjoko singing the praises of another one of their products, the Hotplate. The Univalve amp is priced at £800 sterling and I haven't got a price on the cabinet yet but am expecting...

calling all Delta users, and potential Delta buyers...

who use Cool Edit and W2K (or are thinking of upgrading soon). Cool Edit uses MME drivers. It seems that M-Audio's MME drivers only support 16-bit recording with W2K. So far I have not tested this myself, but am planning on doing so this evening. The point is, forums like this one are a great...

    Live handheld vocal effects gadget

I went to see a band over the weekend called 'The Inflatable Sideshow', and the lead singer had this weird effects unit attached to his waist, with his vocals obviously running through it. They put on a very enjoyable and energetic show, their music is pretty varied but is mostly...

    Time lag when recording.

Okay could anybody tell me the possible reasons for this ? I'm using a Delta 44, and the time lag seems to be about 2ms. I can slide the waveform into place and it is perfect, so I know it's not my playing. Thanks, pAp.

Installed a Delta 44 on my Win2K DAW....

Ok. Took some fiddling but the new drivers seem to be up to scratch. I have been testing it with four mics going into this mixer... http://www.behringer.com/eng/products/eurorack/mx2004a.htm and from four channel inserts in the mixer into the breakout box. It records each mic to a seprate...

    Plus Ebow ?

If any of you lot used the Ebow in any of your stuff, or have any opinion on it, I'd love to hear. I'm thinking of getting one to try and get some different background textural sounds in some songs we are working on. Is it as good as the maketing schpiel would have me believe ? pAp.

    Vox bass amp value ?

I have a feeling it's not worth much but I said I'd check here anyway. I inheritated the contents of a friends attic as he is moving to Australia, and one of the items is an old and battered looking Vox bass amp. Its a q-series 100 watt with a compressor in it. It doesn't work, I think the power...
