I've noticed a curious output noise at playback that sounds a little like LP surface crackle, and even occurs while the transport is stopped if I move the tension arms on either side or manually turn the reels.
Anyone heard of this kind of problem?
Robin.
Studio Projects C1. Blasted thing keeps making noises like a windy day on the coast, and then just stops working all together. Depending on the day, it'll work fine, then starts playing up again.
Anyone familiar with this?
Had no intention of buying a reel-to-reel, but saw this for $20 in a shop corner. It's in beautiful mint condition and everything moves/lights up as they should, got a signal on the VU's when I plugged a mic in; heads look good as far as I could make out. Just haven't run a tape through it yet...
I dunno, just thought this really covers a lot of details not typically discussed in a guitarist's interview:

Want to hear the album now.
Morning/afternoon/evening all (depending on which part of the world you're beaming in from).
I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a compressor, for mild 2:1 compression on a classical guitar in a live setting, low to medium budget (as per usual).
Cheers,
Robin.
I found this recently. It goes halfway towards explaining, in a very practical way, what you need to do, then appears to stop. Can someone fill in the gap?
Here's the text:
For those unfamiliar with subtractive EQ, it's instructive to spend some time experimenting with sweepable mids. First...
If Groove Tubes' FatFinger is so effective, why don't guitar manufacturers simply include a lump of bell metal in the headstock at the factory? Is it a Patent issue or simply a manufacturing issue, I wonder?
I read recently that Steve Morse uses a 'piece of foam' under the strings at the headstock to prevent the onset of unwanted feedback. I've never heard of this being done before and interests me since my Tele tends to feedback easily at higher gain settings. Trouble is, he didn't go into any...
I understand that once a song has been assigned a certain number of tracks, this can't be edited. However, is it possible to copy a (16 track) song to a new (24 track) song and gain those 8 extra tracks? Wishing I'd assigned 24 tracks to the demos now as I could use some extra track width...
By plugging a Y-cable into the insert of a Mackie 1604 (as you would to patch in a compressor, etc.), and then connecting the send/return portions of that Y-cable to the inputs/outputs of the HD24, would that not give me both a direct out from the mixer to the multitrack (for recording) plus an...

Does an electro-acoustic (mine's a Yamaha APX-6a) with built in EQ, sweep, etc., require plugged into a DI box before hitting a PA, or does the guitar's built-in preamp itself cover the DI aspect?
I've seen an Award-Session AP-10 (GG10) going for 50 bux. Anyone used one?
Cheers, all

In order to be able to quickly PFL recorded channels on an HD24 in a portable live recording rig, would a simple, passive summing buss resistor network suffice for simple monitoring of sources prior to recording?
My first concern is what value series resistors to use. (Example circuits I've...

Posting this on behalf of a friend. He's aiming for a very clean drum sound. We've recorded so far with cheap, homemade preamps, through a Mackie, and the latest trial was an Audient 8-channel.
The cheap pres lacked headroom but had a colored sound I quite liked but he didn't; the Mackie pres...
