As the cassette deck will be -10db line level, plugging it into the mic inputs will be fine with the trim turned down. Make sure the phantom power is OFF. If you need to pad the level you can do this with a very simple circuit see here. Wiring diagram below for connecting RCA to XLR. Alan.

OK, I did not realise this, in this case what you have is a ground loop between the bass amp the preamp and the audiobox (more likely the computer connected to the audiobox). You could try lifting the shield on pin 1 of the XLR at the Audiobox input (see diagram). This does the same as the...
