    Pepsi Challenge - MXL603s vs. Octava 012

Below are some clips of each, I'll let you try to guess which mic is which. A few disclaimers: I'm not a pro musician OR sound guy so sorry if the recordings suck. I didn't do any noise reduction or any EQ because I didn't want to affect the sound of the mics at all. Here's the setup I...

Octava 012 vs. Marshall 603s test

I tried a little experiment last night. I recorded a solo guitar piece (nylon string,) with my 603. I then switched to an 012 that I'm currently borrowing. I made sure the mic placement was identical. I had to turn the gain up slightly for the 012, then I re-recorded the same track. I was...

    General question about mixdown

Should I apply changes like noise reduction, reverb, etc to each track before mixdown or should I mixdown then apply those changes? Thanks.

    Wierd effect with noise reduction

Anyone notice a wierd, phaser-like sound after you've applied noise reduction? AllI do is take a selection of the noise in the track and save it. Then apply that profile to the entire track. But, in the background you can hear this wierd sound (mainly just with headphones.) What am I doing...

Question about Ernie Ball volume pedal

Not sure this is the right place to post this so move it if need-be. I have an Ernie Ball pedal that has a strange "problem." Anyone who owns one of these knows it has a huge range of motion. However with mine, there isn't much change in volume until you push it nearly to the top. It's kind...

A few quick questions about SP B1

I've decided on one of these as an all-purpose mic for acoustic, flute, and vocals (I'm currrently on a low budget.) I had the following questions some of you might be able to answer: 1. I noticed it comes with a "foam windscreen," is this the same as a pop filter? If not, what's its...

    Easy question about file saving

Every time I open a session I end up with many takes and tracks, sometimes ending up with only one wav file that I want to save. But, when I go to Save it, it asks me to save tons of files. Is it saving the files I deleted? And, how can I make it just save the whole session w/o asking me to...

    Cant hear my SM57

I'm running it into a Fender M80 amp. I'm trying to mic a classical guitar but I simply cannot get any volume. I've cranked the volume up to 7 or so and still it's very soft. What am I doing wrong? I didn't think the SM57 required a pre-amp?

Advice please - recording guitar and vocals

I'm thinking this must be a common question. When laying down the first track (in my case acoustic rythym guitar,) how do you keep up with how many times you play the progressions? For example, Im working on a version of Led Zeppelin's "That's the Way," and the guitar plays this chord...

should I mix in stereo or mono?

I recorded several guitar tracks then mixed it down. When I save my mix (using CE Pro,) in stereo it makes a larger file. But, when I play it back it doesn't sound any different than if I save it in mono, I.E. the sounds come out of both speakers at once. Is there any reason to save it in...

    2 easy questions

Hello everyone. Just 2 easy questions here. First, how can I add an effect, like amplify, to multiple tracks at once? It seems like you have to do that in the Edit Wav view, and you can only have 1 track there at once (I think.) Secondly, what is better to make tracks louder? Using...

    splicing tracks together

Sorry for this noobish question, but I cannot seem to get CEP to do what I want. Let's say I record a guitar track (track 1,) but make some mistakes at the end of the recording. So, I create another track (track 2,) to replace the end of the first track. Now I have 2 tracks that I want to...

    recording 2 tracks at once

I'm still pretty new to this, so sorry if this is a dumb question. But, how can I record guitar and keyboard simultaneously on separate tracks with CE Pro? My setup is: guitar > line 1 on Behringer 802 mixer, keyboard > line 2 on mixer, then out of mixer into Audiophile 24/96. Any help would...

No sound from my new Audiophile 24/96

My setup is guitar amp > sm57 > behringer UB802 > Audiophile 24/96. The inputs work great but I cannot get sound out of the card's outputs. I have RCA to 1/8" converter attached to ouputs then my PC speakers plug into them. I've made sure , "recording device," and "playback device," is set...
