Preamp Tube Brands
Are there really big differences in tone based on the manufacturer of the preamp tubes you're using?
I'm thinking about trying out some different pre-tubes but have no idea where to start....
any tips, pointers, info or advice?
Well I did a search on strings to see if the answer to my question had already been answered but I didn't find anything... Although I did find a thread on string brands and a thread making fun of good ol' VP...
Ok so instead of going out and buying a bunch of different strings and testing each...
I'm getting popping noises when DI'ing bass using a VST amp sim. Is that a latency issue such as it being too low? Right now it's at 10ms.
If latency is in fact the issue what is it that processes latency? Ram, CPU, interface?
(I've had my mind off of recording for a while so I'm a bit rusty...
Ok, So when using a multimeter in the studio to determine if your signal is at line level you set the multimeter to AC Volts and...
+4 dBU = 1.228V
-10 dBU = 245mV
Correct?
If I'm only using two TRS outputs from my interface that are supposed to go straight to my monitors, how can I hook up a head phone amp without using a splitter at the beginning of my monitoring chain?
And if I were to use plain Y TRS splitters, wouldn't that degrade my signal somewhat?
What do you all keep in your guitar rig racks if you use one? I'm planning on building a rack and I'm gonna be fairly disappointed if I end up making it 1U to small for a typical gear setup.
So to get an idea of how big I should make it, I'd like to hear what all you drag along side your...
About the benefits of using a 64-bit OS over a 32-bit OS.
From what I can tell, you don't gain any speed by using a 64 bit os and it uses more ram...
Am I wrong about the speed or are there only certain programs that you can only get in 64 bit or what?
I didn't really know what forum to post this in and since the newbies forum is sort of a general knowledge area I figured it would be OK to post it in here. Mods if you wanna move it that's fine.
Ok, so I got my PC in a separate room to cut down on noise (thank god :D) and I've got all my...
Anyone ever try it? I need to make a cable run from my PC to my studio and I'm thinking of just extending my VGA cable using speaker wire or something similar. I'm not worried about how pristine and beautiful the image I get looks as long as it works.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I love the smell :D
I spent the past however-long soldering all the electronics in my project guitar. I'm pretty excited since this is the first time this guitar has actually looked like a guitar in over a year. Somehow somewhere at some point I lost the output jack though :(
I was thinking of...
I've done some research and found that it's okay to use aluminum foil as an alternative to copper foil to shield the electronics cavity in a guitar... From what I understand, You just keep connectivity from the ground to the shielding which shouldn't be any problem I wouldn't think.
Only problem...
No questions here, But I read this fairly long (and humorous) post about how to look cool on a recording forum.
I figured maybe a few newbies might catch this and have themselves a read.
Just substitute "studio central" with "HR".
Who am I kidding? no one is going to read this... :laughings...
Hello, I'm looking for help with the acoustic treatment of my home studio.
Here is my room in the exact configuration it is in now. Everything is scaled to exact size:
My home studio is a converted spare bedroom in my basement. I will (luckily I might add) be getting my hands on some OC703...
Some of you are going to argue that vintage gear just can't be replaced and that these new digital DAW's are sterile and cold. And that's OK, Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
That said, This thread doesn't apply to you.
Ok, So us young whipper snappers who grew up in the digital age...
Ok, So I found out how cheap owen's corning 705 is and I'm planning to treat my room which of course means bass traps.
Now here is my problem, I've got quite a bit of crap in my "studio" (and no I don't wanna take everything but the desk out... For now this is just a hobby studio) and I've got...
I pulled an old stereo 7 band EQ out of an old home stereo system (probably late 80's or early 90's) that uses RCA connectors. It just big enough that if I stripped the RCA cables and put 1/4" female connectors on and some rack ears it would fit perfectly in two rack spaces.
Any reason why this...
