Tascam 388 with identical hiss across all 8 channels (no tape required!)

Did you scope the outputs of the audio power supply? It’s usually best practice to, step 1, check the power supply…make sure the regulated DC outputs are at the correct voltage (which should be around +15 and -15V), but also check to make sure there are no AC components. The best way to do this...

    Microlynx ATR124 No record!

I saw your past on the Ampex Mailing List about this…are you saying you can’t arm/disarm individual tracks with the MicroLynx, or the transports won’t enter REC mode via the MicroLynx? Hopefully you’ll get some response on the Ampex List. You may very well, actually very likely, are the only...

Tascam Cassette 4-track Appreciation Thread...Vote For Your Favorite!

When you say you run the signal “…into them and then back into the DAW…”, you’re recording to tape, and then playing that back and recording the playback in the DAW, or are you saying you’re just running the signal through the mixer of the 424mkIII or 464 and looping that back to the DAW?

Tascam Cassette 4-track Appreciation Thread...Vote For Your Favorite!

The SUB IN path is intended for receiving the stereo submix of an external mixer. It allows you to record to the 424 mkIII from the L/R buss two tracks at a time, or introduce an external stereo submix during mixdown. My 2 pence: don’t worry so much about trying to figure out how to use all the...

Tascam Cassette 4-track Appreciation Thread...Vote For Your Favorite!

You’re not going to gain anything by using an external mixer. There is no way to bypass the Porta 05 mixing section going in or coming out of the Porta 05…no direct buss inputs to the recorder section (not unusual for a cassette-based all-in-one multitrack device), but also no direct outputs...

how to get into the meter bridge of a tascam m512 mixer

On the meter bridge, look at the back. There are aceews around the perimeter of the back panel of the meter bridge. Remove the screws and the panel comes off. Then you’ll be able to see inside the bridge. The meters are held to the face of the bridge in pairs with a bracket fastened with screws...

    Audio Technica AT-RMX64 Story…

So it’s been awhile since I’ve updated this thread. But I am nearly uncontainably excited about the reason for this update. You see, it would seem the greatest Achilles heel of the AT-RMX64, the lack of available technical/service documentation, is in process of exoneration. I always had this...

Serviced Teac 80-8 with Incessant Intermittent Volume Drop on All Channels-No Rhyme or Reason

First thing I would do is replace all the relays. I’m surprised your tech has not experienced anything like this before. I’ve experienced this exact symptom set on multiple machines. The problem was faulty relays. That’s where I would start if it was me. I may be completely wrong.

Serviced Teac 80-8 with Incessant Intermittent Volume Drop on All Channels-No Rhyme or Reason

Hi. Don’t discredit the machine because it’s not working right and it’s “old.” Yes the 80-8 is a less “sophisticated” machine, but that also means it’s potentially easier to fix and keep operating long-term than a machine with, for instance, a complex full servo transport. The 80-8 was a...

Why does the Tascam m-106 have PGM out 1-4 and only monitor out with no faders?

That’s super generous. Thanks. In honest return, I’ve learned so much and received help from many kind people on this forum including you.
