Help Modifying Tascam MS-16 with Multispeed Switch

Okay, thanks for that info…yeah I need cable with an overall shield, ideally braided. Yeah those screw-terminal connector PCB assemblies are great. I’ve used a few different Phoenix-type connector boards for some different projects…really great solutions.

Does the cable have an overall shield?

FWIW I would not use that device to calibrate my machine.

Help Modifying Tascam MS-16 with Multispeed Switch

What are the specs on the 60-conductor cable and where did you get it? I want to make a 50ft ELCO extension cable for my RC-51. Thanks for the link!

Help Modifying Tascam MS-16 with Multispeed Switch

Can you post a link to the mod thread you’re talking about? And I understand better now what you are doing with the speed control mod. Thanks for explaining that. And yeah what you’re doing with your low-budget remote control solution is perfectly legitimate. I thought of doing something...

Help Modifying Tascam MS-16 with Multispeed Switch

So you modded the cards back to 15ips. So why incorporate the easy access speed change mod? 15ips is where it’s at for that machine. Glad you are having a good time with it. That’s great. I work in digital and analog, but find I have an easier time getting a good sound with an analog signal...

Help Modifying Tascam MS-16 with Multispeed Switch

Right…a DP3T switch means double-throw, three or triple-throw. Basically 2 independent sets of common “outputs” if you will, each with three selectable inputs. If it was me I’d install jumpers. You’re wanting to easily switch the speed, I get it, but machines that are designed with this sort of...

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

You get what you pay for. I would not buy the cheapest cables you can find in whatever online marketplace you choose. They will not stand the test of time and will not pass signal as well or shield your signal as well. That does not mean you need to spend a mint. That’s a pursuit of expensive...

    Son Of Tascam 58 Story...

As detailed in an earlier post I had Terry Witt refurbish the pinch roller. Well, I decided the counter roller needed refurbishment too. I pulled the roller assembly off of the spare 58…disassembled it, cleaned the parts, bought some good quality close-tolerance Nachi bearings, and sent the core...

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

I agree 100%. And yes Model 2 series is unbalanced 1/4” TS phone jacks. To connect a balanced mic and keep the signal balanced up to the mixer you need one of those female XLR to 1/4” male TS adapters with the transformer in it.

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

Just to be clear, my comments about Behringer have nothing to do with “a name”, but rather substantial failures in near-new devices, poor-quality design and execution of internals when comparing Behringer products and the brand name devices they copied, and unacceptable sonic performance...

+1 to the Yamaha…well-made, reliable, good bang for the buck…good performers and very affordable.

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

No disrespect intended, but I disagree with that suggestion entirely…first, I don’t believe the OP is looking for or needs a 32 channel console…or even 24, 20 or 16. I believe the OP is looking for a more compact console. And my personal experience after years of taking these things apart...

    TASCAM M-520

Yes. Of course you can. That’s what the PGM ASSIGN 1-8 switches do for you. Each of those switches assigns or sends or routes the signal on the respective input channel to the correspondingly numbered PGM fader in the master section, and each of those faders feeds its correspondingly numbered...

Tascam TSR-8 set up (bias...) + Tascam 58 tension arm rollers

Yep. 100% true. I often bring that up and ask about the test equipment. I thought that was touched on but now I’m not seeing it…maybe I’m just missing it…but @ecc83 I’m glad you raised the subject. @bleachboy what make and model is your meter (apologies if we already covered this)? The level...

Tascam TSR-8 set up (bias...) + Tascam 58 tension arm rollers

Yes, correct. But the scenario I describe is one where it’s the same tech and the same machine day in and day out…your circumstance is one where you are servicing different machines on an ongoing basis. In your case I consider it more important to follow the instruction in the manual. In the...

    Audio Technica AT-RMX64 Story…

Cool. Thanks for posting that. So any axial lead lamp with about a 0.44VA rating will be a close match to the factory lamp. “VA” in this case means volt-amp…that’s the voltage rating multiplied by the amperage rating. So 8V 55mA (0.055A) is 0.44VA. 6.3V 0.07A is about the same. 9V 0.05A is about...

Tascam TSR-8 set up (bias...) + Tascam 58 tension arm rollers

Really good point, Dave. I agree. “Back in the day”, and still presently I’m sure, techs at professional studios, typically with professional-grade machines in operation, would use the meters when lining up their machines. BUT, these were/are machines in use daily, often undergoing *daily*...
