Although I had borrowed a reel to reel (2 track) recorder for a few albums before, eventually the Tascam Portaone became my first true multi-track recording device. As soon as I could afford a decent PC I moved to Cakewalk 9, Sonar 8, and now Sonar X2 and X3.
The tools we have today, compared...
Fairchild Compressor Plugin: PuigChild 660 & 670 | Waves
This is one of the final pieces to my virtual studio puzzle, but I've already accumulated several (analog modeled) compressors recently that add warm, mid eq detail. Looking at the reviews and youtube videos it seems this is one of a few...
Today I spent some youtube time checking out mastering chains that the professionals use. In the past I tinkered with some filters, limiters, compressors, and whatever else I had laying around that I could chain in Soundforge to learn how they all played (or didn't) together. The results were...
This response got me thinking it might be a topic worthy of discussing at greater length...

Thanks for stopping in and putting a face to the site Rob. :)
The notification when I first connected was likely unnecessary, and to some people could be a turnoff [see attached, "PushCrew"]. Most people use a general/spam email for subscriptions anyway, so asking for an email is the lesser...
Blue Lola $249 list Amazon, Sweetwater
The highs were almost non-existent and I'm not interested in managing custom EQ's just so I can use one pair of headphones, so resold them on eBay. The bass response, like with the original Blue Mo-Fi, was exceptional. With less electronics and no...
Seeing that my other request resulted in finding the exact solution, I'm putting out one more for a plugin that I don't really think is entirely necessary to purchase... [waves has a very nice graphic EQ plugin but even on sale costs $60+]
I have clunky tools for doing EQ, and have been...
I recall recently seeing a plugin that allowed for display (meter) realtime RMS and peak values. Figure this meter would be helpful when mastering [I usually compress by ear and verify levels with Soundforge's normalization tool before finalizing]. One of the IK Multimedia plugins I no longer...
I just noticed something recently changed and has caused many of the Soundforge 10 processes (EQ, chorus for example) to stop working within the program. I click them, nothing happens. I've done a full reinstall (including registry entry removal). Other items like Normalization, etc work...
Here's some EQ and L3 compression. Wish the lead had a touch more presence and the vocals a tad bit of stereo presence/chorus on them (they sit too center and sterile for my tastes). The kick and bass compete around 50-60hz, so I made some adjustments there to allow the kick more room.
Just a head's up in case you missed it - Amplitube 4 is being released later in October, and there's a $50 off (normally $149 - $50 = $99) preorder deal right now. I just added it to my sweetwater card with 24 months no interest, plus their free tech support.
IK Multimedia | AmpliTube 4...
Is this plugin any good? I have the CLA vocals and it's very useful, although the presets are poor IMO (I just manually adjust things to the way I want).
On sale for $50 right now.
HR.com has always had a special place in my heart, it was the first site online that I started learning the craft of making music with software many years ago. I post this only to share the then --> now progress I've been making. Guest vocals on 3 of these tracks is none other than HR's own...
Is it me or are the drums really loose? The hi hat in particular during a few spots feels off.
Might also want to consider using a gate on the vocals to reduce lip smacking (or fade them in/out).
Even though the noise floor was low there was still some audible hiss during the softer sections...

Digital Music: Can You Hear Above 16-bit/44.1kHz? - The Mac Observer
Also attached a paper on the subject. It's funny you indicate the debate was over IN FAVOR of 24bit, but quite the opposite is true.
Every hobby requires money, sorry you think everything should be free. You need the proper tools. You wouldn't go mountain biking in this:
The cost/performance in home recording has never been better than it is now.
You're looking at $100+ for an interface plus Sonar upgrade (usually...
