Where do I need bass traps?

I would get the equipment where you want first, then perform a few test recordings to see what issue you might have. It looks like you'll be sitting close to your monitors for mixing, so unless playing back mixes at a very loud level or at distance, the amount of treatment needed is likely...

    Been here before

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Despite many coming and going, and forum upgrades and revisions, the cave is still dark and dreary. You'd think by now with energy efficient LED lighting they'd be able to brighten up the place, but alas the trolls that live there prefer to...

    Been here before

Only a handful of people still around from wayback. Your old account and banned IP are also probably long gone. Fresh start?

Rodepodmic and Scarlett 2i2 for voice recording, the static noise make me wonder my life

I can't imagine this trend is going to improve with all the new youtubers/insta/tiktokers who never recorded a voice in their life suddenly needing to sound like pros for their microwave oven review. This equipment is becoming ubiquitous across multiple disciplines.

Am I supposed to summarize 20 years of mixing into a reply? Maybe try to ask specific questions, you basically asked "can you tell me about chemistry, I just started my bachelor's degree program... in chemistry".

The more I look at my basement, the less ...

Same here, room acoustics for me are mostly a non issue for the exact same reasons. It's only when mixing it matters, and at the lowish volume and proximity to the studio monitors I do the mixing it's again near zero issue. [I have things like you to scatter and absorb some of the sound]

    DistroKid ? ?

I've been using Catapult for a few years without issue, but like many others I earn pennies /month in revenue (and no promotion on the material submitted). www.catapultdistribution.com It wouldn't surprise me to learn someday through a national news level story that companies like Distrokid...

Have you ever recorded something so bad the client says forget it?

A couple years ago someone's brother (drummer) joined our established, very professional home recording project. He sent his first absolutely butchered takes to me, I replied asking about his setup and if perhaps something was wrong with the midi files he sent, to which they replied "I'm doing...

    The Ears of a mixer

There's truth to this. People may not recognize a poor mix [because they have no training to discern A from B, good from bad], but a good mix can go a long way to earning people's enjoyment. Rap, r&b, and dance music started the ducking craze [large kick drum sound] that also migrated into...

    The Ears of a mixer

A good mixing engineer dials things in on their studio monitors, then shops the mix around [playing it on earbuds, car stereo, home theater, bluetooth speakers, etc] before calling it 'done'. How it sounds to one person in their home recording studio is useless if it sounds off or poor...

    Laptops for Home Recording: Advice

Make sure you're using a SSD (solid state) hard drive, this will greatly impact performance and mixdowns as you start loading up on tracks. Plenty of system memory (8+GB RAM) if you're expecting to use a lot of plugins and any midi based sound packages like Kontakt. Typically a good laptop...

    Problem with sim amp

It sounds like a routing issue with your inputs as Ujn posted. You should be passing all monitored audio through one sound device/interface. If you want to post your entire chain so we can help, please do [and I suggest starting a new topic in an area related to general computing/interface...

    Problem with sim amp

Are you an experienced Cakewalk user? There's a monitor button ("input-echo", labeled J on the diagram below) you have to select on the track to hear yourself in realtime through the VST/plugin.

Noise in sound cards. Should I expect that?

Definitely isolate the studio monitors from other electronics. I also keep my cell phone away from the interface and computer.

    Need help fixing some tracks...

For your listening, yes EQ'ing as I described would help but I played the track on my primary headphones (ATH-M50, very standard stuff) and had zero issues. Are you having issues with your ears/hearing? There's absolutely nothing in that mix sonically that would come anywhere close to "pain...

    Need help fixing some tracks...

I'm not hearing anything drastically wrong here. Are you listening on neutral speakers/monitors? Are you playing it super loud? Higher frequencies will almost always sound harsh at higher volumes. If you expect people to crank your songs to 11 (like dance music) maybe just trim the entire...

    Are mixing tutorials worth watching?

100% true about how people learn differently. Couple other ideas/takeaways... 1) There's no substitute for experience. Spending hours adjusting a mix then returning with different ears years later and hearing the deficiencies. Time is the only teacher in this regards, you need to make...

Need suggestions for starting my home studio.

It sounds more the beginning build list for a studio located in a home. There's not a ton of difference between PC and Mac, you'll find solid software and solutions for either. If you plan on doing computing or possibly gaming on the computer, then that's something to consider [factoring what...
