Cubase seems fine. I've not yet built a complicated project, still getting used to things and testing, but it seems to be handling anything I throw at it.
EaseUS isn't free anymore to do cloning.
Clonezilla is about all I know for free, or the Samsung utility available for use with one of their new SSDs. I personally use older paid versions of Acronis on my system for backups, which can be used for full bare metal recovery and cloning.
I'll...
Although I don't use the effect rack much, I really like Sound Toy's plugins and use them fairly often. The effect rack does what you want, it loads all the plugins and then you select presets from the rack menu and it 'programs' the plugins for you.
Welcome to the sickness! Although now is a...
One month later followup -- good feedback on the album. Not much movement online in terms of new listeners, other than Youtube randomly promoting our lyris videos for a few days resulting in a couple of them getting more views than would otherwise be expected.
We didn't think much was going to...
That about sums up my thinking on the oldest gear -- good for museums. Necessary even to have saved someplace, but really just a snapshot in time like we look at arrow heads from archeological finds.
Nice writeup Rob.
I've moved over to Cubase using a crossover license for a bit less than full price. I could always come back to Cakewalk but with my latest album done it seemed like the right time to move to a new DAW.
Cakewalk's a good product but wasn't 100% glitch free. I'll have a better idea just how...
Hello all,
I don't post a lot anymore and tend to visit in spurts overall. Once upon a time this forum was invaluable to me as a fledgling home recording musician. It's been 6 years since my last full album of music. You can read about the prior album and revelations related to its release...
I do most of my mixing and mastering on headphones, and pass the song through my monitors only for some last adjustment. It helps to use the same headphones for years, as I've become comfortable with what I'm hearing on them and how that translates roughly to other playback situations (earbuds...
Upload WAV files and let Bandcamp compress them for streaming. Based on my ears, the streaming quality is about 128Kbps. Uploading a MP3 to only have them recompress it will result in diminished quality. 128Kbps is the bare minimum, they're probably keeping the streaming quality low to save...
Although I'm aware of cable lengths being meaningful to the USB tech/spec, it didn't occur to me when connecting my Focusrite 2i2. That said, I'm using USB-C to an available USB-C port on my motherboard, so I'd imagine that's ideal from a USB power draw and latency standpoint. I think my cable...
Like Jimmy says, a lot depends on how the original track is recorded. The settings used are in direct response to the track, so while it could get you in the ballpark it really wouldn't be of any use as an out-of-the-box sort of quick solution. But once you've dialed in things on your end...
Like you I've been primarily a Cakewalk user since Pro 9 (sometime early/mid 2000s) and eventually Sonar through its last iteration. The bit I've been able to gather from the other offerings is that most operate similarly, so the workflow and layouts are becoming somewhat standardized out of...
I ended up bailing (due to increasing glitches as Windows progressed onward with updates) on the last working retail version of Cakewalk for the free and it works very well. I'm disappointed but not surprised, I was one of the lone vocal members who resisted moving to the free version and...
After watching that video it's clear to me that while I was able to make reasonably pleasing noises on the pedal steel, I was by no means "playing a pedal steel". :ROFLMAO:
Lapsteel and pedal steel are fun. I have not ever owned either but have played my band mate's or collaborator's in the past. I recently added acoustic slide to a song, and instead of playing it traditionally I open tuned the guitar to A and played it on my lap. It adds a unique approach and...
Wanted to thank Rob for the topic as it had me revisiting things on my end, to discover my weekly backup had stopped almost a month ago without any notification of an issue (but also have not been getting success notifications either, which just slipped my mind to notice). That wasn't tough to...
I was in a similar situation when first starting home recording years ago. After a noise complaint from my neighbor I spoke with them about their schedule and worked around it for things that required me making noise. I communicated my intent with them and we were able to easily avoid issues...
