    What defines a great guitar?

I’ve been in the vintage and new guitar business since 1974 and have seen about every kind of guitar ever made. There are certain guitars that have a mojo to them that can’t really be properly described words. When you pick it up it comes alive and floods you with musical inspiration. I played...

    What defines a great guitar?

Good guitars are not crappy guitars when played by a beginner. Your point is beside the original point, and should get its own conversation. But this is a different conversation that is about the guitar itself. Great guitars are great no matter whose hands they are in, so are crappy guitars...

Depending on the model the Harmony is probably a better guitar. Do you still have it? If so, send me s pic.

    What defines a great guitar?

Sometimes great players play crappy guitars. A great player can play wooden blocks or pots and pans with no strings and create music.

Tascam 388 Ch. 8 playback muddy

Why does the head look different on the bottom track? This seems to be where the problem is. Maybe it’s time to have the heads relapped?

A good test of small condensers

I just use them to make recordings and listen to them in a mix. If you are familiar with your other small diaphragm condenser mics and gear it should be easy to hear the difference.

Gibson is not a good company.

But don’t you know that Eric Johnson can hear the difference between a Duracell and a Everyready battery in his pedals? This video tells you a lot more about reality than that guy who makes these dumbest clickbait guitar videos.

Gibson is not a good company.

This video is such a click bait scam. This guitar does have a body which is the table that the bridge is screwed to.

Gibson is not a good company.

The type of wood that the fingerboard is made of has virtually no effect on the sound.

Gibson is not a good company.

I haven’t encountered any of these laminated fingerboards but I don’t think it would be an issue refretting one unless you were needing to sand the fingerboard straight and had problems with sanding through the top layer of veneer.

    Sound doesn’t see color.

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

We start our students out working on 3/4 all birch Stella type guitars which we get for under $50. The dovetail neck joints on these are exactly like a Martin or Gibson. They learn through working through their mistakes without destroying valuable guitars in the process.

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

Spool clamps are the worst. The first luthier ‘tools’ I made included a batch of spool clamps. I hate them. Klemsia wooden cam clamps make spool clamps pretty much obsolete.

NGR stain will make it even darker.

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

You can but their table and then pay the tune of several hundred dollars to get enough sticks…..or make one. I use redwood for the sticks and one 2x6x8’ board will make enough sticks to last a couple of years.
