    Six Ribbons

A cover of a song written by Jon English somewhere around 1979 My girlfriend provided some backup vocals, I sing and play the classical guitar and electric bass guitar. Pan flute and strings are synthed

    Love

This is a song that I co-wrote with a young friend. She commented while recording and I thought it was cute and fitted into the song so I left it there. She thought it was funny

Just a few tweaks here and there with various levels, no compression added to final mix. I didnt touch the vocal levels because it seems to match the way they did it in the original and the backing level comes up after the first verse anyway.

Remix with 2db lower level on all tracks, no additional compression or limiting on the mixdown

Ok, I see what you are talking about. I have to go out and I was in a hurry (bad bad). Although I didnt apply Boost11, there was a touch of limiting when I mixed it down. This is the waveform for the wav file from which the mp3 was made. I will post another one with a little less clipping...

Thanks again for the feedback I replaced the drumkit and applied a few tweaks to address the issues that were raised. As far as the vocals go, I listened to the original and found their vocal level was way higher than mine so I decided to leave it alone. I didnt know what to do to make it...

I didn't compress the drum track by itself. I have found a better snare drum though... I did use a mastering tool called Boost11 to bring up the final mix but I don't hear any change in the sound of the snare

This is a section of the sequencer showing the variation in snare velocities. I gotta come up with other ideas on this... or record real drums all the time. My drums are elsewhere atm so I am kinda stuck with the sequencer for a while. But I got lotsa drums in this package ... theres gotta be...

Yep, I know everyone does it but nothing wrong with comparing techniques. I used a 12-string acoustic on a single mic for the main guitar and a 6-string acoustic for the fill-in bits. Drums, bass and strings are synthed, vocal is me

I cut some of the middle out of the guitar in this version. Would you mind reassessing the recording? I appreciate the feedback :)

Ok, pop cleaned. I don't really understand "boxy". I have heard it mentioned before but not really sure what boxy means and what "not boxy" sounds like. To me, it sounds like the original acoustic guitar. I could use some advice on avoiding or treating the boxiness bit... Ignore that, I've got...

    Student Original

My 17yo male guitar student asked if I would record one of his originals. This is the recording. I used an AKG D7 dynamic and an AKG P170 condenser to record the acoustic guitar. An AKG D7 dynamic captured the vocals. My student played guitar and sang, I played electric base and acoustic drums...

    Bad Audio

This is really a gripe, not a question. Not directed at you guys but just thrown out in general. Why is the audio so bad in Chariots of the Gods? The speech and other sounds are ok, they sound pretty clear but the music in the background is atrocious!!!! Surely they didn't make it that way? It...

    Standalone Compressor VST

I seem to have a fundamental problem with phrasing a search question so I came here to ask for human assistance. When you are watching a series of YouTube video clips, the volume level can change enormously between clips. I had the idea that a compressor/limiter in the audio path could provide a...

I Want My Life Back (Advice on getting this to sound better?)

Hey Pizz, if you dont mind, I took a crack at your original recording and processed it the way I described... this is the result. I dont think you have a "bad" sounding guitar at all. The process involved converting the guitar to mono using just one side of the stereo image, in this case the...
