Need help finding the guitar tone for ‘Bodies’ by smashing pumpkins

Yep, like stated it's way too gainy... also note that Corgan recorded layers of guitars... so record much much cleaner than you'd think you would... just the fact that stacking multiple takes will make the gain sound higher in the end... that being said... I'd rather your cover version sound as...

New Original Song: I Won't Let You Go by Reve + Ujn

I Won't Let You Go Reve + Ujn I woke amongst The crystal fields In prism caves Where no one's real And everyone is dying It's a dream, So serene. Our beating hearts Imbue disorder Wrapped in gauze Of grenadine Til the long sleep brings us respite Finally... Finally. (Inst) As crimson seeps...

New Original Song: I Won't Let You Go by Reve + Ujn

Our latest track. Love to hear your thoughts. Written and recorded in Reaper between 12/1/2023 and 12/8/2023. I used ToneX for my guitar track.

Signal flow with patchbay and interface

I have the same Behringer Uphoria UMC1820 Interface, but I use Samson S-Patch Plus 48-point Balanced Patchbays. Just remember that Signal Flow goes like a Waterfall Through the Patchbay... Sound Flows out the Top and into the Bottom. My Samson S-Patch Plus has selectors on the front for...

    DAW for Video Editing?

Necro necro! Well, Reaper works, but I actually prefer using DaVinci Resolve for Video. Both things are Free, Reaper is better with Audio and DaVinci is better with Video.

Considering switching from ProTools to Reaper

Sorry, I don't use a ProTools Theme, just know of the Stash where all the Themes/Reaper Stuff is located. I use a Theme that isn't there anymore I don't think... some form of Commala 5 Theme. Customizing Reaper is (to me personally) the best thing about Reaper.

    normalize vox?

Not at all. That's all well and good too. This thread was about "normalize vox?" to which I say... no... don't normalize vox... record them at the proper level, or turn up the gain if you happen to be stuck with a crap take...

    normalize vox?

If you have Waveforms completely out of whack with one another... you're doing something wrong when you're recording them. If you can't see your Waveforms (i.e. they are all too small, Shift + Up Arrow in Reaper will increase them until you can see them properly, other DAWs should have similar...

What is missing from my studio that is important?

How I wish that our Electric Lines were all Underground! I've got it even worse as none of the Electric is Underground, and on top of that the Grid that I'm on (that most of the neighborhood itself isn't on...) is the same Electric Grid for the Shoreline, which gets slammed any time there is a...

    normalize vox?

The fact remains that "Normalizing" is completely pointless in this scenario. If the Vocal needs to be "Louder" either raise the Level of the Media Item, or raise the Level of the Fader on the Track itself.

    normalize vox?

Normalizing? Raising the Levels? Are you using EQ and some Compression? Those things will probably do more for your Vocals than "Normalizing". Also... why are you choosing Ribbon mics over Condenser or Dynamic mics for Vocals?

2 Panned Guitars or 1 Panned Guitar and 1 Panned Reverb?

You could even do something like having the 1 Guitar w/ Reverb Panned in the Verse, and then BAM! in the Chorus with the Double Tracked Guitars to make it sound HUGE! It just depends on what you want the song to do...

Question: mono tracks into stereo bus

Just use Reaper and Render to a Mono File if Studio One can't do it. Seems crazy that you can't render a Mono File. The Stereo (Dual Mono) File will work just fine, it's just double the data and pointless.

2 Panned Guitars or 1 Panned Guitar and 1 Panned Reverb?

Just like @Random dude said, there is no right or wrong. It's just about how you want it to sound. You can always double track your guitars and then mute one to try the reverb panned on that one guitar track to see which you prefer for your song. Personally, I always double track, it just sounds...

    Kind of NGD

No! Paint effects the tone!* I personally wouldn't paint anything... but obvs, it's your guitar and we don't see eye to eye on anything else anyway. ;)...

    Just popped into my head

Nope. You're just making excuses and putting it off. Make a road map and then fit your lyrics and melody to that. ;)
