    Clarity

Could also be mid frequency buildup. It happens to me a lot caused by instruments that produce the same mid frequencies that over lap. Alone the track sounds fine but in a mix the sound is muddy. In those cases I identify the offending frequencies and pull those back with EQ.

    Hello to one and all

    Hey Mike, welcome.

    Kinda gave up.

Haha, I've been diagnosed with carpal tunnel two separate times in the past and the pain I was experiencing is long gone. Good thing I am a procrastinator.

    Good Inexpensive Noise Cancelling Headphones

Another option is to use your favorite ear buds with the over the ear muffs like folks use at the shooting range.

    editing with headphones

No matter what headphones I use my mix never sounds quite right when I listen back on speakers. I can get close with tone and separation but stereo imaging is always a fail for me. Effects always need adjustment as well.

    Do you add VU meters?

I loved them on my old analog gear but I've never had a desire with DAW.

    Spitifre chamber essentials

I wonder why this one requires the Kontakt player? I have a bunch of other Spitfire stuff that doesn't require it.

How you deal with Heat in summers while recording - I switch off Fan but I have to AC

I have a few different sources of noise that include heat, AC and dehumidifiers. I turn off whatever I think will cause an issue while recording and then turn back on when finished. Yeah, it's a pain but it's worth it. It's worse for the folks that have outside noise that they cannot control...

Are you using the DAW included free with your interface?

I do look at other DAWs out of curiosity but I've been content with Reaper for a long time.

    midrange

I don't have a favorite and use a few sets of reference speakers. My studio monitors are JBL 4408.

Help, Help, Help Someone starting out!!!!!

I have my music room in a basement and IMO you only need to sound proof the ceiling and whatever is above ground because no sound is going to penetrate concrete and dirt. Acoustic treatment is a science that I have no expertise with but I do know that eliminating standing waves is very important.

    midrange

IMO, midrange is extremely important because it's where most overlap occurs. If your monitors don't represent the mids well your mix will suffer.

Fooled Around and Fell In Love

I love that tune. Good job.

    Lyrics are not poetry

I know more people that care about lyrics than not. They want to hear a story or some sort of message. I personally would rather hear something meaningful than some BS lyrics but not a deal breaker unless the lyrics offend me.

Drummer played a cardboard box on stage.

I assume the box sounded like a kick drum? Was there no other drum sounds?

    FX for guitars in Reaper

Can you be more specific about what effects you're after? There are too many effects that come with Reaper to start explaining what they all are.

    Strings

Depends what Spitfire strings you're using. I've tried a bunch but the only one I really like is the BBC Orchestra which I used on a recent recording.

    bandcamp

Bandcamp is pretty easy IMO so I don't have a recommendation for something easier. There are YouTube videos if you need help with customizing.

Steps you can do earlier in the mix to make it easier later on?

Correct any timing issues is at the top of the list for me.

Recording Acoustic Guitars - mono? Stereo? Where do you stick them?

For me it always starts off mono and many times I double it by recording another track with either the same guitar or sometimes a different one, then the tracks are panned right/left. I have recorded with two mic's but i almost always end up recording with either one LDC or one SDC aimed in...
