My M-Audio 2496 has recently started to add a fuzzy distortion after recording audio for a miniute, if I change the buffer setting on the card it goes away for a miniute then comes back. I re-installed the driver, same thing. Is the card bad? Anyone have this happen?
I've had an M-Audio 2496 for 3 months. Recently it started getting a fuzz when recording audio. It goes away for about a miniute if you switch the buffer setting, but always comes back. I've tried both channels, un-installed and re-installed the driver. Could the card be bad? Works for a miniute...

Can someone briefly describe how a softsynth works? My question is this: A softsynth does not go through the AD convertor, correct? So does your interface/hardware play anypart in the quality? Or is it strictly the quality of the software synth samples etc. Some commercial CDs have big beautiful...
I'm using an M-audio 2496 which I cant complain about for 100 bucks new. But its basically 10-15 year old technology at this point, and lacks the crystal sound I hear on some recordings. What is your favorite, most impressive interface you have experience/knowledge with? RME has a new PCI-e...

Cubase 5 has an MP3 encoder to export a mix directly to an MP3, but it costs extra. Does anyone have an opinion on whether its worth having, or is a free wav/MP3 converter as good ? These days a good sounding MP3 is pretty important IMO.
When it comes to soft-synths such as Halion, what increases the ability to use more of them CPU or RAM? I think my CPU(intel duo 2.8) has the power, but only using 4Gig Ram.
I just purchased an M-audio oxygen thinking it was able to directlink with Cubase 5, but only the 32bit is supported (which is Cubase 4 anyway) M-audio says they're compatible until I tried to download the driver. Anyone know a USB controller ready to use with Cubase 5 (64bit)
