When doing the stereo mic'ing. I'm trying moving it around abit 12 fret and 90 degrees and then bridge and 45 degrees or so but I'm definately getting way more signal from the back mic, which does seem to make it sound a little more natural, but the signal is so low I'm hearing alot more of the...
Not sure if this is the right place to ask.
I have 0 mixer. My band has a nice basement for practice but again no mixer so it's just kinda everything at volume. I have a chance to buy a fostex 450 mixer in perfect shape with it's manual for $100. I was thinking it might work but I can't even...
When you start working on a piece, original or cover doesn't matter. How many of you just get crazy with it. I'm very amature, maybe 4 or 5 years (who's counting) of playing and I find a song that I just want to play. Today it was Ben Harper Number 3 (the acoustic piece with no vocals). I have a...
I have tried this approach a couple of times and curious if maybe I'm going about it the wrong way, I've contacted a couple of local non busy studios and offered to pay their hourly rate for a few hours to learn the process of recording/mixing. So far I haven't even gotten a no, just no answer...
This is just a yay thread, got my first sm58 yesterday in amazing shape, no dings or anything very well taken care of. $50 and sounds perfect.. The mic collection starts to grow =) slowly.
I was pretty suprised how "flattering" that mic is to voice.. It's almost like it lefts a few of the...
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasn't sure where to put it. We always see reviews on gear has anyone here used Harvey (from this forum) MoreMe or MoreMe Studios? Any reviews? He gives a very honest assesment of them on the site and the price is dirt cheap but I don't ever see people...
I get how superchunks work in the corners but I was wondering why use bass traps where the ceiling/wall meet. Is it kind of a two purpose device at that point acting as a bass trap and just kind of a general reflection stopper?
Or would it be ideal to make the superchunks that run acrss the...
Just one more quick one I think. When you're recording, guitar/vocals/anything really are you keeping the volume/signal fairly low during recording (seems like you can record what sounds like a perfectly clean sound with no real room noise) and then boosting it with the output on EQ?
I'm...
I'm sure someone here is using a digital mixer or has figured out why not to.
Basically I have a couple things I'm trying to decide. I've recently joined a band and we are going to need a mixer for gigs. I found the YamahaMG166CX-USB which also has USB out so I was thinking I might be able to...
When building acoustic panels I've seen lots of ways to do it listed on various sites, but most pretty much agree that you're looking at about 4" of whatever type of material you use (roxul or the more rigid board of fiberglass)
Is 4" the size everyone should use or is thinner/thicker ok?
Didn't see one of these threads going already so I figured I'd start it up.
Where in the world are you?
I'm in Jackson, Mississippi. Any other southern people here?
I know this is a cheaper SDC but I was curious on opinions. I wanted to get something to start the stereo acoustic recording as outlined in the recording techniques area and I found a stereo pair of the 993s for under $200.
Is it worth it?
FWIW: Currently I only have the AT2035 running through...
I've tried changing positions and volume and everything I can think of but I still hear the clicking of my pick during my recordings. Is it just changing the way I play to make that go away or is there something I'm missing that helps to get rid of that noise?
I have been looking at lots of pictures online of different acoustic panels and some of them are pretty large. Would it defeat the purpose to also use some of them as guitar holders? Basically just put a couple mounts on it to hold a guitar in place. I would think putting a hard surface in front...
I've been working on mic placement and everything from the last thread and gotten happier with the results. I was hoping you guys would watch a video and see if you can tell me what techniques this guy uses
Katy Perry - The One That Got Away - Music Video - (Cover Jake Coco) - YouTube

If you are just in an open room and hit record, and then play it back does it sound like silence or does it have the "white noise" I guess you could call it? It's not like an audible hiss and it's not something I hear over a recording but if I just played back empty space I recorded I would hear...
In the acoustic thread to get the sound he did he basically recorded the same track twice, one 2 mics each set (4 tracks total). Then panned them hard left and right and some other things. My question is what does the panning add? Is it just because he's using 2 different mics/positions so it...
