Nice demo there.
I hear he left the first verse dry and double tracked for the rest? It's a cool technique used primarily to emphasize certain parts of a song but also used for a songs entirety. Like most things regarding music recording, it's subjective to the performer, producer, and writer...
To throw out a number I'd say roughly 20 tracks. I believe the limitations were the charm. Unfortunately the two main guys that could clarify that have left us. George Martin and Geoff Emerick. I feel Martin gets too much credit in the recording process after Emerick came on. It was Emerick's...
This is the same piece you submitted a few weeks ago looking for a melody/lyrics to go with it. And you received some of the same criticisms then regarding the song, it's dynamics, etc...
Are you a musician? Meaning, are you fluent in playing any instruments to where you have a sense of music...
It's feasible. But as it reads, or as I read it, I feel it'd be tough to make it flow with consistant phrasing throughout. Are the IFIM's pronounced individually? And the other ones, PEP, KSS, etc...Are they acronyms and how are they pronounced? Syllables matter! Lol! For me to make it a song...
Let me clarify my reply. I feel as the song is now, there is no room for a vocal. Which is the premise of the post. If the single note piano and the harpsicordish sound parts are what is supposed to be a melody then laying a vocal on top would make the song more busy and they would collide with...
I would strip it back down to just the chords and chord progression, without the dang dang dang piano notes, and start over from there. Be tough to lay a vocal/melody on top of what to me sounds a tad busy. Maybe try and work a melody out of the existing piano notes and expand on it. There are...
Essentially they are the same machine. The compatibility of the cards, I'm not so sure about. But I agree with jamesperrett. Move them to a folder in your pc with wavmanager and email to your friend. And he can move them to his machine for reference and overdubbing. Since they are wav files...
I agree with Talisman. Invest in a effects unit with sims. As an MR8 user for years I've never used the built in fx, as I had an ME-33 pedal board already and it works fine with it's sims. Or invest in an SM57 and mic the amp. I've gotten great results micing the amp too. If you haven't already...
Hi Rob,
Thanks for your input.
I guess what I'm looking at is to get each individual track to where the loud parts and the soft parts get evened up and then put them together to mix down. Some of the recordings are 40 - 50 minutes long and include talking in between takes etc...
I'll see...
Not sure if I'm in the right room for this inquiry but here goes.
I have some 4 track recordings of me and an old bandmate to which we get together once a year and dick around for about 8 hours doing Beatle songs and other classics. Hit ''record' and let most of it all be captured on the...
I know I'm setting myself up for ridicule but I'm still using a digital recorder and import tracks into Power Tracks DAW. When I first started digital recording, latency was an issue for me. I got a hold of an MR8 with the 40GB hard drive and use that for tracking eliminating the latency issue...
Made a demo tape for my band back in '92 on my Fostex X-26. We did our mixdown on VHS tape and used as a master to bounce back on cassettes to hand out to local clubs and bars for some work. I was surprised at how good it turned out. We were only doing covers so it didn't need to be perfect for...
In response to the Beatles references here. They didn't get into experimenting with mic placement and such until Geoff Emerick started working with them. EMI had very strict rules on mic placement and screwing around with the equipment. Placing mics closer to amps or inside the piano close to...
Queens method of layering harmonies, especially on Rhapsody, consisted of Fred, Brian, and Roger all singing the same part together. Triple and/or double tracking that part and bouncing them down to one track. Erase the previous takes and repeat the process for each part to the point the tape...
My first one was a piece of #12 wire with pantyhose and it worked fine. I use the standard one that attaches to the stand now. Although I do have good mic technique it does help with maintaining a constant distance from the mic.
