    Project<S>!

Since I was off since last Wednesday, I managed to make progress on my assundry guitar projects. I made the tremolo functional on the jambolin. It necessitated my learning to use my friend's router. On this homemade recyclocaster, I already had a hole through the body big enough for the trem...

    Epiphone Tunomatic

Are Epiphone tunomatics a different size than gibson ones? Drawing the squier/fender comparison. I have a hollowbody with the rosewood base tunomatic. The thing rattles and has started to really bum me out. I just want to make sure that I can buy a nice replacement and have it fit the way...

    Peraloid/MOTS blanks

I've seen some self-adhesive acoustic guitar pickguard blanks at various places on the web, but no vendors I really feel comfortable with. Can anyone recomend a vendor? I want to cut a pearloid detail, but it doesn't have to be as thick as the WBWP 4-layer pickguard blanks. If it were 2...

    Levelling frets

How big does your brain have to be to do this. There ain't no way I'm paying $200 to get a setup for a $199 guitar. The frets are huge, but some are worn. I like the worn ones. The unworn ones, like up above the 15th fret look factory fresh and are blocking lower frets' view of the bridge...

    Nut's too tall?

I suspect that the reason why the action was always too high on my guitar is that the nut slots aren't deep enough. How do you determine if the slot depth is proper. Like fret it at the last fret and see how far it clears the first fret by?

    F'n FLOYD ROSE, MAN!

I got the kramer back together again. Floyd rose=coolness. Bummer is that the arm keeps working loose. Do you use locktite or what? I would kind of prefer it to be loose and spinny, but I hate it when there is detectible play in it up and down. This is the old original with finetuners. the...

    Tone Control=volume control?

I am recycling some wiring for my Kramer. I never use tone controls, so I'd like to bypass it. This one is also a coil splitter push/pull, so I thought it'd be cool to keep it. Can I just remove the volume control (which is between the 5-way switch and output jack, and then remove the...

    Hypothetical trem positioning

Since I really don't have any physical way to lay out the position of the pivots for my floyd rose, I can put it pretty much put it where I want within a range. I was thinking that, as a middle child, the saddles should all try to be towards the middle of their range of motion to accomodate...

    Floyd Pivot holes

I have a floyd that was in a drawer and now I am putting it back into service. I have a strat copy that is currently drilled for an american vintage 6-hole trem. I would think there'd be some kind of template that spots the holes for the floyd trem posts from the existing stock-trem screw...

Wireless guitar - get shocked anyway

When I gig I use a shure wireless on my guitar and my mic still shocks me. Not all the time. I used to check for a ground problem by holding the strings and touching the underside of my forearm to the mic ball to see if I could feel anything. In this situation, I can't detect the shock, but I...

    Oh, this guy sucks

Not really. It's kinda neat. I don't like stuff like this since I can't readily steal it, but it's fun to watch his nonchalance when he plays. http://www.filecabi.net/video/andy-mckee.html

See cephus! FARM USE: Vinny's Columbus, OH

I was very pleased with the gig out in West Jefferson last week. Saturday, February 3rd, we're playing Vinny's at 2222 Henderson Rd. This is kind of a reunion thing because we have repatriated our original drummer. I put up a couple photos from the first couple gigs on the website. It took...

History of Rock and Roll on VH1 Classic

CHuck berry: Kinda looks like an Indian guy, doesn't he? I have loved Chuck Berry for years. I dig everything about him. I play 3 of his songs almost every gig and I could probably play 8 if someone requested it. I've seen "Hail Hail ROck and Roll" several times. I have a few original 45s...

    Smegmacaster!

I bought $20 worth of gerlitz cleaning shit and this guitar still is hazy and streaked. I was really hoping that I could get rid of the cloudiness. WHat can you use to clean a painted guitar, assuming that it has never once been cleaned in 20 years of bar gigs? Can anyone infer what sort of...

    Speakers: Dispersion vs Directionality?

OK. Maybe it's not a word. I played a gig this weekend in a weird shaped room and found that my 212 peavey classic 50 had a 10-degree range where i could hear it. I mean, 20 feet away, if I walked in an arc, it was like a 10-15 foot range where you could hear the amp and then it dropped off -...

    Painting a hollow body

I was wondering if anyone ever did it. I am going to sand all the grey yech off of my homemade jambolin and seal it with something to keep it from getting all mens-room floorey again. It is a semi hollow and has a couple sound holes. I assume I'd mask off the holes and not let over spray get...

    Why do Epi fans

Like to take pictures of their guitar bodies and cut off the headstock? Agile fans, too. Why do squier fans buy water slide decals of the fender spaghetti logo and put them on the peghead of their affinities? Is it because they feel all empty inside? Don't buy into it, guys. Enjoy your...

    Gold Hardware: Strat trem

Which has better gold plating, the Gotoh strat trem available from stew mac ($72.59) or the Wilkinson one available from guitar fetish (43.95)? The Wilkinson also has some kind of weird snap in arm i'm not crazy about. GFS also has split post tuners that i really like by Wilkinson. Is...
