Can anything be done about clipping that isn't clipped?

If the clipping is downstream and the wave form doesn't actually display a flat-top clipped shape - i.e what you've got is essentially a recording of the sound of clipping, is there anything that can be done? For example...

How to clean velcro sounds from live audio - should iZotope RX3 be able to do this?

Trying to remove the sounds of someone adjusting their velcro shoe straps during a performance. I've been trying the iZotope RX3 demo, so far with only so-so results, but it's likely I'm not getting the most out of it. Here's a sample. 48/16 file about 4 megs. Do you think iZotope should be...

What do you think of this DIY Reflexion filter design?

Just to be clear, I don't think you're thinking of the right kind of foam, this stuff is fairly thick - looks a lot like Auralex type foam. I'm sure there's some degree of filtering.

Suggestions for internal treatment of sound booth

Working on a home-built sound booth. What's in place now is basically a room built inside a room. Sheet-rock on both sides of 2x4's with fiberglass insulation between. Access door which is constructed just like the rest of it. Air vents on opposite walls which are an inside air slot at the top...

Such a thing as a real-time software recording eq plugin?

I.e. instead of the mic going into a hardware eq, a software eq before it hits the record path in the daw.

Looking for suggestions on how to treat this vocal

Sample of a vocal isolated from a karaoke track by aligning with the original track and phase inverting, the goal being to tweak it and sit it back into a mix with a clean version of the same karaoke track. Re-tracking not an option. There's a little of the high end from the track left in the...

    Which do you like better?

Decent headphones for mix checking and for tracking

What I'm looking for are phones that are in the "you'd have to spend a lot more to get better" category for headphone checking a mix and for tracking. If there are different models you'd recommend for each that's okay. Thanks.

    Deliberately introducing clipping?

I've always been under the impression that avoiding clipping is a basic tenet of digital audio. Looking at this mastering tutorial, if I understand what this guy is saying, he deliberately introduces a limited amount of clipping - 2:30 "I wanted to get a little bit of clipping on the A to D"...

    Suggestions for tweaking this audio?

Sample of audio from 8mm analog video that's been captured to DV avi. The only processing that's been done to the audio sample here is sample-based noise reduction. Trying to get rid of all the resonance & boominess. Haven't gotten it to my satisfaction so far. There's obvious boominess at...

Let's have a best cover of Hallelujah contest!

Not mine per se, but this was the first version of this song I heard. It's by one of my favorite unknown karaoke singers and thought she did a superb job. My contribution is tweaking the audio to try to compensate for the bad mic she was using. She did the harmonies strictly seat of the pants by...

Marantz Pre-Amp as a mic pre?

Do you think this is a particularly superior way to record or just a novelty and doesn't have any advantage over any number of pre's out there? Not planning to do it myself, just taking a survey for someone. Marantz Audio Consolette Tube Preamp Thoughts by The Daydream Sound - YouTube

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

Isn't mid-side creating "fake" stereo? I.e. the stereo field is created by inversion of the side mic copies. Instead of using a figure-8 mic for the side mic, why wouldn't a mix of two mics aimed 180 deg apart work?

    Impressions regarding this singer?

Audio file with samples from various covers. Curious how she strikes you. The focus is on the performances not the audio tech - they were done under non-fancy circumstances with decidedly non-fancy gear. https://soundcloud.com/brassplyer-1/jjsamples

Question on eq'ing and otherwise treating a vocal...

How much do any of you do it with eq or other processing and how much just by using a volume envelope? Anyone know of a really good reference to learn to get that just right vocal track that's both smooth and cuts through the mix without harsh peakiness?

    Original orchestral music

The problem with simulating brass instruments, particularly trumpet, even with high quality samples is that there are so many variables and nuances in how the notes are attacked, released, transitions between notes, various inflections. If you strike a piano key over and over the same way...
