Anyone heard of problems with Oktava MK-012 capsule connections?

Tracking a band today I had to add the screw in pads for one of the overhead pairs. That led to level differences between the pair. I basically tried to trouble shoot between songs, cables and a second set of caps etc. (Tracks before the pads were clear and clean BTW. It turned out the one mic's...

    A 'Mesa question..

I guess I need to do some trouble shooting but It seems when pushed (near full clean..) this LoneStar Special wants to fold. A few times I thought well we're all on the same circuit, out doors' what have you, maybe voltage sag? But IDK, I don't recall in years running a Twin this kind of effect...

Who knows about video related noise in TV audio?

Sure, why not here. I'm a kneub when it comes to 'vid. :D Home TV, cable, real basic old TV stuff. I've noticed many times (over the years, different places..) that sometimes during an ad' for example they'll add a new sub screen into the picture. And with that will be some audio hum or buzz...

Mic gurus- Audix M44, AT450 for AC guitar

Anyone have any experience or opine’ on either of these? I’m considering them for clamp-on mount for acoustic guitar (primarily) and for recording not live if that matters. The Audix happens to have a sloping low end similar to the DPA4099g that will probaly help compensate for the rather close...

    EQ for the media player?

Is there any way to inject some nice eq for the Win media player playback? That graphic eq doesn't get it. I have some eqs on the e-mu patch mix on the internet rig but even that's pretty crude.

D/I inst input question- one hums one doesn't

Last few sessions we've been experimenting with AKG-240 phones to mic the upright bass. Yeah ;) Anyhow, I started with a Chameleon 7602 and it worked out well enough. But the D/I at its min gain, was running hot enough to where I thought that pre could be getting into saturation, so we swapped...

    'Yhy Not 'Wye question

Why Not Wye? I recently posted this in a thread asking about combining mics to one input. Fixing to work on me guitar cable I got me thinking- we ward-wire sum our P/U's, and the Rane guide does say don't sum outputs. So, is there any downside y'ing balanced mics together -Maybe if they're...

    Another case for LPF ?

I heard an interesting thing happen at a club the other night. A Blues trio, 'semi crunchy Strat, bass, drums and vocal through the mains dominating for the most part the stage levels (ie they're amps weren’t too big/too loud- and the bandstand actuall faces away from the main room. Lots of high...

    Problem room and drum tracking!

Grins  Yeah, small rooms. PITA Here's where I put my 'overheads' (the Earthworks The kit pair from down there is closer and beefier- (more 'skins less brass/air. Then the MK012's are really just blended in and/or eq'd as needed to dial in the top view and sparkle (or what ever...

How come we don't see more low pass filters..?

I'm thinking for bass in particular (guitars maybe), on amps, preamps, their eq sections? I guess variable high pass is pretty standard on decent mixing boards, some pre's have them. And filtering on that end is apt to be applicable to a lot more tracks. But more and more it seems to me low...

Advice from you live sound folks- Sub quality?

I'm considering subs to add to a small pa rig that I use for the occasional gigs with my bands. Not looking to get into anything real high volume/heavy rock, just good reinforcement and headroom in med rooms, small outdoor etc- a good match to the EV ZX3 that would become my mid/high boxes. My...

How about theses Beyer TG's in the side adds?

Looking at their cut-away, two stage pop filter.. Anyone tried them? Some of their text spec speak about 'proximity compensated is enticing.. but vague enough to be useless. I'd always be interested if/when the're improvements in these areas.

    I just heard something interesting..

Band/mix is electric fender with (what I assumed at first might be it's spring amp verb) mono behind the gitar at about 10 o'clock. Hammond', mostly dry', mono at 2 o'clock. But on the final jab' end decay I hear the hammond's rotors going in/along with the guitar verb's decay. Always new 'mono...

Any interest in an ADAT that will chase tape?

String tension- WTF? ES355 / Gretsch

I've played a 355 for ever. But for accoustic, not much else really. I recently picked up a used Gretsch G5120, set it up with my normal SkinnyTopHeavyBottom's. But I'm surprised how much lighter they feel on this guitar (more so the lower wound strings I guess. I thought it would just be that...
