How would you complete this project???

OK, My band is no longer on a record label and we're doing our second record mostly by ourselves. We saved enough money from shows to do the drum tracking at a "real" studio. SSL board into some sort of bad-ass A/D converters into 96/24 Protools. We'll get the drum tracks along with all...

Stores with use recording gear in So. CA???

I'm on the road a fair amount for my job in mfg. equipment sales and like to stop in to a few of the pawnshops on my route(s) to check out guitar and bass stuff. But as I get more and more into recording, I wouldn't mind checking out any good spots with used pro audio stuff. Any suggestions...

Thoughts on 6.5" Vs. 8" Monitors

I've tried to search the forums for threads on this, but haven't had much luck. I'm wondering what some of the consideration are when choosing driver size for monitors? Any good threads on this or thoughts? Thanks

    "Demo Expired" Message

A few months ago I picked up a version of Home Studio 2XL. As I'm digging deeper into it, I'm finding some of the audio effects (PG, Sony, etc.) have a "DEMO EXPIRED" message on the respective windows that pop up. What's going on here? I can still use all the Cakewalk Effects just fine...?

Cakewalk HS2, Yamaha S03, is this gonna work?

I've dismantled my old studio setup and will be moving into a new house where I will have a room all to myself for my studio. Escrow doesn't close for another 4 weeks so all I have to do now is dream about it and ask all my silly questions. : ) I've been using Cakewalk Home Studio 2.0XL for a...

Old PC Finally Died, Now What...?

I was using the PC that got me through undergrad up until about 8 months ago. Since then, I've limped by with my laptop and my wife's PC. But now we're moving into a larger house where I can have a whole bedroom for my studio :) I'm ready to incorporate my PC permanently into my setup...

    Source for studio desks?

Curious where you all got your various computer desks and shelves and what not. What I'm looking to house is my 24x8 console, then a pull-out shelf for my keyboard, and a shelf that sits above the back for my PC monitor and my near fields. I'll house my rack gear elsewhere so I'm hoping this...

Do I need a snake or a stage box or???

I'll be recording my band for the first time with my new studio setup. In the past, I've just run a bunch of 25' microphone cables out of my preamps to where ever they needed to go. I was setup in my garage and the drummer sat right there in the same room as my equipment. Bass went direct as...

    File Format For HD24

My band is going to be tracking at a really nice Pro Tools based studio pretty soon. I've asked the engineer if I could have the raw tracks to mess with on my home studio which consists of an analog board and an HD24XR. I have some DAW capabilities as well. The files he'll be providing are...

Thoughts on which Cake Walk I Should Buy?

Hi all, I currently use a cheapy version of Cake Walk Music Creator 2002. I got it for next to nothing as I recall. I don't do much with it except I'll use it to edit (copy/cut/paste) tracks that I've recorded on my Alesis HD24, and write MIDI stuff that I then put back on the HD24. I'm much...

    Online MIDI sound file resource?

I don’t even know if I’m thinking about this in the correct way, so here’s what I’ve done and what I’d like to do. I have used Cakewalk Music Creator to write a piano score for a few tunes I’ve recorded with my band (acoustic based rock stuff). None of us can play piano so recording a real...

Sub Vs. Monitors with larger drivers

Hi All, I've been noticing that in my current mixing environtment, I'm not hearing the lower frequencies well at all. Anything below 70Hz or so I'm guessing. After mixing and burning a CD, I'm always surprised at how boomy my kick and bass guitar tracks seem. When I roll off the 80Hz range...

    Uses for Busses???

I'm a little confused about busses. I've used them in the past to mic up 2 or more instruments on different channels, then send them to the same track on a multi. I did it a lot more when I was using a 8-track 1/2" system. But now I have 24 tracks and a 24 channel 8 buss board, so I can't...

    First Song on New Setup

As some of you know, I've recently moved away from my old Tascam 38/Mackie 1604 setup. I now have a 24*8 board (Mackie) and an HD24XR. I'm gonna hold onto the 38 for use on some projects, but I wanted to try my hand at using the just the new gear on a song. I've also recently gotten Fruity...

Mixing to a PC or ???

I currently am tracking to a combination of a Tascam 38 and an Alesis HD24XR. I'm trying to figure out the best way to mix down. Currently I mix to DAT, then burn CDs on a stand alone Marantz machine. A long chain, and one that forced me to have my last Analog to Digital conversion on the...

    HD24 ->Fireport NEED HELP!

I just got my fireport hooked up and was able to transfer 6 tracks of drums to it as a test, from my computer through the fireport. I popped it back into the HD24 and recorded some guitars to the drums no problem. So then I go to transfer some more drum tracks to different songs to the same...

Mixes are TOO "in your face"???

I've been re-mixxing some old 1/2" 8 track stuff that I recently transfered to my new HD24XR. When I recorded the material originally, I was in a band with a guy who did most of the mixing through his board and outboard gear, and they turned out sounding pretty pro. We pressed 500 CDs and sold...

How would you run a LXP1 in this rig???

I have a LXP-1 that I'd like to use for my main reverb with my Mackie 24-8 board. When I use it live on my 1604, I usually have the return on channel 16 rather than on the "return." Should I do this for recording? Also, I usually set the MIX at 100% then use the AUX to back off the amount...

Not New to Recording, but new to the "box"

I've been recording on my Tascam 38 for years with great results. Mix to DAT, then burn CDs as needed. Mostly demos for my band and other local bands, but did a couple LPs that sold pretty well. I recently decided to add an HD24XR to the equation for additional tracks. The guitarist in my...

    A Recent Demo

This is a demo of a band I play with. We actually do mostly adult/acoustic/rock stuff, but this one slipped into our set as well... Recorded at our lead guitarists house on a HD24. Drums, bass and vocals are all from the first take. You can actually hear the singer talking durring the...
