    Power amps (studio)

I'm considering bying studio monitors. I already have a power amp - Samson s1000, which is something like 340Wt @ 8 Ohm and 500Wt @ 4 Ohm per side. I really like the Event 20/20 monitors, but I'm wondering if this amp is good enough for studio monitoring. Could someone (who knows what they're...

    Monitors

Ok, well I've narrowed it down to a few. There's Event 20/20, which is $269 at zzounds and then I'll have to spend $200-300 for an amp. These are 50hz-20khz and have an 8" subwoofers. Also there are PS6 for about $599 with 45hz-20khz, but only 6.5" subwoofers. These are powered, so there's no...

    Is it really YOUR song?

I'm fairly new to songwriting, but not to poetry and I've been playing guitars and basses for about 4 years now. I also play drums. Anyway, very often, when a song sounds "good" to me, it also sounds "familiar" and I begin to wonder whether I unintentionally just went with somebodyelse's...

    Recording an acoustic album (?)

I'm recording an acoustic album for a friend. First take was just the rhythm guitar part. He played my Martin D-15 and I used 3 tracks for it - I had a RODE NT1 in front of it (couple feet), AKG c1000s (hypercardioid) above it (~4 feet) and the third track was the condenser mic that's mounted...

    Shock mounts

Does anybody have any ideas on how to make effective, good-looking shock mounts. I have an AKG c1000s and a RODE NT1 and I don't really feel like paying $50 or more for shockmounts. I understand that it's probably easy to make them, but I just can't think of where to get the parts. Maybe someone...

    A small condenser with "everything"?

Are Shure sm81 mics worth the money? Are they better than say an AKG c1000s? Is it useful to have those bass rolloffs on a mic like this (drum overheads, acoustic guitars, etc.)? Your help much apreciated.

    Amp for near-field monitoring?

I'm probably going to have to get me a pair of monitors (using a home stereo for that now). I'm thinking Events 20/20 for starters. So, what's an adequate power amp for those? How about Samson Servo amps and what's the optimum wattage for the Events?

I want a Large Condenser "with everything on it" :)

Well, there's so many "affordable" large cond. mics around - you can get a Nady CSM900 for $99.99, NT1 for $169.99, there's the Marshall and Joe Meek and others. Well, most of these and even the next step mics, like NT-2 lack things like various patterns, some lack -10db pad, bass rolloff, etc...

Nady SCM900 1 Inch Diaphragm Condenser Mic

"Nady SCM900 1 Inch Diaphragm Condenser Mic" Musiciansfriend.com has these on sale for $99.99. So, how do these compare to the infamous Rode NT-1 and other budget large condensers? This one doesn't seem to have bass rolloff, pattern switches or pad, and no shockmount, either, but still, hard to...

Kick Drum mics (D112 vs. ATM25)

I have the D112, but I see everyone raving about the Audio Technica ATM25. I can get one of those for $140 + shipping right now. Is it worth a try? I can always sell the D112 for more than that, right? I play the Pearl Rhythm Traveler set, so it has a rather small and shallow bass drum (it...

    Overhead(s)

My drum mic setup is pretty simple - AKG D112 on kick, SM57 on snare and a couple of CAD Equitek E-1000-s on the overheads. I cross them and aim one at the hi-hat and the other at the ride cymbal, yet they're about 4-5 feet up from the snare, so they pickup everything. Well, Shure's "Microphone...

    RODE NT-1 & NT-2

Just in case anybody might care... zZounds.com has nt-1 for $169 and nt-2 for $339 (I'd be careful about the nt-2, cuz they might not include the case and the shockmount at that price, but the nt-1 don't include 'em anyway :)) If everybody knows this, feel free to delete this thread. Thanks.

Tube Compressor (not the ART Levelar)

Zzounds has a "Bellari LA120 Tube Compressor/Limiter" for like $110. I don't really know much about this one, but it seems like a sweet deal. Anybody have comments? It's here: http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/love.music?p=p.BELLA120&z=847978206432

    SansAmps, etc.

Well, I've had mine for a while, but didn't get a chance to record much with them (got them for live use). Let's hear it from those who used the various SansAmps to record. Please specify which unit you used (Classic Sansamp, PSA-1 SansAmp {ouch, expensive!}, GT2 Sansamp, Sansamp Bass DI or...

Line 6 POD vs. Johnson J-Station

So, has anybody compared the two? What are your feelings? And would somebody like me, who already has his SansAmps(GT2, Bass DI and Acoustic DI), Trademark 60 and analog effects pedals want anything to do with them? :)

    Behringer vs. Behringer "Pro" ?

So there are older Behringer units and the newer "Pro" units. I'd apreciate all coments on which ones are better, particularly: Virtualizer vs. Virtualizer Pro Modulizer vs. Modulizer Pro also Multicom (quad compressor) Multigate (quad noise gate) etc. Are the older units worth more money in...

    Behringer Modulizer Pro

I have a Virtualizer PRO in my rack and I'm thinking about the Modulizer PRO. I want to have some nice choruses, flangers, etc. to go along with reverbs and delays. I would apreciate some comments about the Modulizer PRO. I intend to buy one used for around $100. Or am I better off just getting...

    Compressors with Gates (?)

How important is it that a compressor have a gate in it? Or is it any better to have a separate gate unit? The reason I'm asking is because I'm considering whether to get a Behringer Multicom, which is a 4-channel comp with no gates or 2 Autocoms or Composers, which would each have gates. Thank...

    Rack units (furniture, etc.)

I would like to buy or build a rack unit. Could someone point me in the right direction (on the web). I don't want to spend a fortune on cabinets - the money I could spend on gear.

Effects Processors for a home studio (?)

I'm thinking of getting rid of my nanoverb and getting a good rack unit (and trying not to spend a fortune). My cassette 8-track (Tascam 488 mkII arriving in the mail tomorrow) is supposed to have 2 fx loops so I guess I'll need 2 units. Any suggestions? Preferably something with internal...
