What acoustic guitar recordings, or records that feature acoustic guitar, have what you consider great world class acoustic tone?

Steve Howe's acoustics always sound good on those middle-period Yes records, for instance the guitar intro on "Roundabout." Another good one is his work on "Turn of the Century" from Going For The One. Really awesome sounding stuff, with a ton of reverb.

New room, mirrored wall behind desk; how much trouble is this likely to cause?

Yeah, when you get the chance, take down the mirrors.

New room, mirrored wall behind desk; how much trouble is this likely to cause?

Any way to remove the mirrors? If it was me, I'd build Rockwool-filled panels to hang on the mirrors, if that were feasible, if the glass would be too difficult to remove.

    Popping sound when recording bass

Yeah, the first half sounds like compression artefacts, while the second recording doesn't feature those snaps and clicks. It sounds very clean. I think it's the amp sim and FX amplifying the pick attack sounds. I play guitar, but I record plenty of bass, and I have heard that sound in the first...

    Yamaha AW1600s synced

What I said about being half-serious was meant to apply to a novice getting into recording today. Why fight with technology that is, charitably, past its prime? It doesn't make sense to be messing around with technology that is in fact obsolete when technology is available relatively cheaply...

Adding USB hub to new PC

I had a strange experience of erratic mouse control (for months and months!), where I would move the mouse and the pointer simply would move, or it would disappear, or do other very frustrating things. This was while trying to do editing and other tasks while in the DAW. This wouldn't always be...

    Power Cable issue

Oh! Well, the seller is right--those things have a lot of moving parts, and those parts wear out, and can be tough to find (especially the belts!). The thing is, those machines are old technology, and it's likely that a repair shop handles them very often. You can wind up paying a small...

Is this normal to have such a low input level with a SM57 and Scarlett 2i2 (acoustic guitar examples bellow)

It depends. That 2010 is a hand-held style mic, but most condensers need a shock mount of some kind. They're usually included.

    Yamaha AW1600s synced

Bail on the old technology--you'll quickly find that it's obsolete for a reason. No meanness is meant here. It's just one limitation after another in that realm, and if you're even half-serious about your music, you owe it to yourself to do it.

Is this normal to have such a low input level with a SM57 and Scarlett 2i2 (acoustic guitar examples bellow)

The AT 2020 and the 2010 are good mics, and relatively cheap. They will work very well indeed on an acoustic.

Is this normal to have such a low input level with a SM57 and Scarlett 2i2 (acoustic guitar examples bellow)

Okay. But I would worry first and foremost about your room, and not massaging the 57 with compression or whatever. Treat the room as best you can; there are plenty of websites that show you things that you can do to help with the room, because the room for recording and listening is by far the...

Is this normal to have such a low input level with a SM57 and Scarlett 2i2 (acoustic guitar examples bellow)

Might be time to try a different mic. You can get some really decent condensers for not much more than that 57. Like the CAD M179. It will likely solve your gain problems, but condensers are sensitive, so be ready for that.

    Referencing a Mix on a Sh*tty Speaker

I check on earbuds. Bose Sport in my case, but I always check mixes on studio phones too. I run the studio phones through a Little Labs headphone amp. The vast majority of people listen on earbuds, but also those JBL type all in one speaker, like the Flip 6 too, and then there's the car, with...

    Power Cable issue

Take note of the polarized plug--examine the other machines' plug outlet and see if they're the same, and then check the voltage and amp requirements--they are likely on a plate affixed to the machine somewhere. What do you plan on doing with those tape machines?

What sample rate and bit rate these days?

48/24. Always. That's what I work in while recording and mixing. It's slightly different for Mp3 bounces. See below. Just stick with that. 24-bit instead of 16 is always a good idea--don't use 16-bit if you an avoid it. Any Mp3s I bounce for myself or clients/artists are always at 320 k...

    ASIO issues

"I mean, Melodyne has not improved it's stability in 14 years when it could have, but nope, the program is still crash prone when you'd think that would have been eliminated in the last 10 years. (Why that hasn't been fixed is mind boggling considering not much has been improved feature wise...

Anyone else using the UAOXBOX for tracking guitars?

I use an old Line 6 Podxt to record, but am thinking about upgrading to their rack model, the most recent one. I rarely play out, but have used the Pod when I have, through an amp.

Anyone else using the UAOXBOX for tracking guitars?

That thing got rave reviews when it came out, and I know a lot of players are using it. It's not cheap though.
