20-year-old Tannoy Reveals - should I replace them?

Thank you all very much for the replies. It's good to hear that my passive Reveals are within their expected shelf-life. They were stored in a garage for about two years, but they still sound ok to me, even though the coating on the dome of one of the tweeters has degraded and rubbed off...

20-year-old Tannoy Reveals - should I replace them?

Hi folks. For my home mixing and mastering, I'm still using a pair of passive Tannoy Reveals that I bought 20 years ago. Do you think these are still likely to be good, or should I replace them due to their age? Are there better budget monitors of a similar (or smaller) size nowadays? I'm...

Placement of noise gate (plugins and hardware)?

Yes, that was always my approach, too.

Placement of noise gate (plugins and hardware)?

My logic suggests that if I use a noise gate, I should put it at the end of the effects chain, so that it eliminates noise from all the preceding effects. However, I often see people putting the noise gate near (or even at) the beginning of the effects chain. Is there a valid reason for doing that?

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

I did much the same with my parents' 1960s 'stereophocic radiogram 3DSC' (Pye Ltd), when I was still at school. I managed to connect my guitar to it and use it as an amplifier. Built a phaser pedal shortly afterwards from a circuit in an eletronics magazine. I wish I still had that phaser...

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

Thanks for the clarifications. Surprisingly, that active box I ordered was cheaper than any passive DI box I could find, and its foot switch could prove useful, too. I like that all three audio sockets are 1/4" jacks. My situation is home recording in a fairly tight space. All my guitar pickups...

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

Ah, ok - thanks for the info. Hopefully it'll do the trick, anyway. The foot switch might prove useful in some situations.

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

That might be what I ordered (not sure)... but it looks like it's designed to do what I need. If not, it will probably come in useful anyway. Sorry, I have no info on the circuitry:

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

I said the link seemed obsolete.. (It pointed to a Yamaha brass instrument page, when I tried it, yesterday... though today it does point to the DI box.) :-) Thanks. The interface is a Behringer UMC202HD, which does have swtchable Hi-Z/Inst inputs. Not sure what you meant by "slight wiff of a...

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

Thanks for your input, @snow lizard. Yes, I thought about the possibility of using a small pedal with a stereo output, but found I don't have one. So I've ordered the M-Vave AB/Y box shown in my photo. The price, including shipping was very low, as it's coming from China. Hopefully it'll do the...

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

Thanks @keith.rogers, and @jimmys69. That Live Wire Passive DI link seems to be obsolete, for me, Keith. But yes, I might end up buying one of those DI boxes (or at least one with all 1/4" sockets instead of the XLR type. I found this item online. What do you think?: But here's something I'd...

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

Happy New Year, folks. Does someone have the electronics savvy to answer this? How I can split an electric guitar cable signal into two, so that I can have one branch going into an effects pedal and the other branch going into an audio interface? I have a hunch that a simple Y splitter cable...

Recording guitar tracks: Using effects pedals vs. adding plugin effects, afterwards, within a DAW?

Thank you all for the replies. They've been interesting to read. The concensus here reflects my own conclusions; I feel I need to be hearing what the final sound should be like, while I'm actually playing it. I think I may start splitting the guitar signal, so I end up with one track containing...

Recording guitar tracks: Using effects pedals vs. adding plugin effects, afterwards, within a DAW? Which way do you prefer, and why? Thanks, all!
