    Looking for a new Bass...

I would trade something for it. I use it a lot, so selling it isn't worth it.

    Looking for a new Bass...

Besides maybe two, I'm done buying guitars that will take me a while to find/afford. I sold a bunch of amps and have everything I want. Somehow, I fell into buying basses, so I'll play. I found this one so cheap that I couldn't not buy it at the Fall Philadelphia guitar show two years ago. I...

The ProTools Sansamp plug is free and pretty good.

    Cool Vibes

I forget the brand but I had a set of headphones for a while on loan for a wireless review with no latency. They were expensive but very cool. I didn't want to give them up now I don't remember the brand. I don't think they made it.

How do you organize your amps?

I like recording with amps over sims. I don't have a ton of amps in my studio, but my goal is always covering different toanz vs a bunch of the same things. I bring things from my storage in/out once in a while. For a long time I was looking for a way to organize them. For a while I thought...

    Epiphone Special I

Very Cool! Years ago I worked in a store that had a white one of those and there was something about it that I loved. This would have been about 1998ish? Cool guitar!

Acoustic guitar, gut/nylon strings, standard (not classical) neck profile

I have the cheapest Taylor that they make. I don't know the model number, but it's MIM, which is precisely what you describe. A classical player would hate it. I like it. It plugs in and sounds good through a sound system. I like it for around the house as well. I don't remember what it cost...

What acoustic guitar recordings, or records that feature acoustic guitar, have what you consider great world class acoustic tone?

Lots of good examples here. In my experience, if you have a good acoustic, it's hard to record it and have it sound not good. Depending on the instrumentation and vocal acoustic can get in the way, but for the most part spend the money on the guitar before the mic!

Members average number of mics and a list...

I only have a few mics. I'll do my best. About 17 years ago I ditched all my cheap mics and started buying good ones one at a time, starting with my used MA-200. I have enough mics now to do whatever I need to, but if someone is recording alone at home I would say buy two or three great mics...

Ribbon Mic for around $800 USD in 2024

Used AEA R84 is probably about there. I picked one up open box and love it. I have a pair of the Royer R10s and they're affordable but not sure it would be my first choice for your application.

I'm writing my degree on the U47 and need your help

My better half's father is a well-known international singer/recording artist. He was a vintage U47 in his studio, about ten minutes from our house. I don't have a U47, but I do have a U87ai, and despite what I read online, I prefer the newer 87 on my gf's vocals. OTOH, she sold a lot of her...

Gibson is not a good company.

I get two or three Gibson guitars every 12-18 months. I received a Special in the mail a few months ago and will have another model arriving soon. Aside from two SGs with broken necks (see Ed Roman's website for the photos I sent him!) I've not had issues. I love their guitars. The QC has been...

Baxendale Conversions, world class acoustic guitars at prices musicians can afford.

Cool. I have an old 12 string Stella I should send you. I have a few harmony sovereign guitars - one with a light top and one all mahogany, but I like those as is. Neat service! I would love to try one sometime!

I have an older U47. I use it for outside kick and sometimes in videos.

    UA Enigmatic (Dumble Overdrive Special)

If it works for you that's great. I use sims sometimes to get ideas down. I've never (aside from when I had a Firebird X on loan) gotten a 'great' sound from one. They sound ok, but IMHO the UA Deluxe was unusable. Guitar Rig is pretty good, the new version especially, and the Tonex is kind of...

    UA Enigmatic (Dumble Overdrive Special)

I tried a couple of the UA sims and did not like them at all. Maybe it's because I own the amps I'm playing models of. I would rather have a decent amp.

So you guys are staining just for cosmetic reasons? Interesting.

Gibson is not a good company.

I don't care about the color. I want an ebony board if given the option. The rosewood is fine; I was commenting on someone asking if it was ebony due to the color.

Gibson is not a good company.

I know, but I like ebony fretboards. I don't see the point of buying a new guitar that is supposed to be like the one made in the 50s. If I buy something new I just want it to sound good and play well.

This one is rosewood. I wish it were ebony!
