in sonar 1, i could hide/unhide tracks.
i hid some tracks before going to sonar2, and now i can't unhide them. where's the track view widget to select which tracks to display?
i'm interested in the electro-optical aspects of the 2nd edition of the bad horsie wah, because of the automatic bypass when you take your foot off the pedal.
having said that, can anyone attest to the sound, and durability of this piece of gear?
ps. i don't do rock... except lover's rock, i...
on the recording i'm currently mixing, the rapper has vocal sections that sound great, and would be even better with a little compression, then out of nowhere, he'll get really-loud and then soft again.
there were probably 20 spots where this really-loud and then soft again occurs.
if i set...
I was reading another mastering related thread on multi-comp settings attack, release etc...
I didn't really agree with what was said as far as using a fast attack/release time because i believe that the multi-comp isn't used for catching those quick transients, but rather for making the mix...
I'm looking at the DBX 48-point TRS patch bay.
patch bay channels 1 through 8 will have A-rear connected to the mackie, and B-rear connected to the Tango24 D/A/D. patch bay channels 9 through 16 will have A-rear connected to the mackie inserts for channels 9 through 16, but will have nothing...
I sent the following message to the Midiman tech support staff and this is the response i got. It leads me to believe that i will be waiting for quite some time before they get the WDM drivers to work in 48khz. Since they don't seem to know the difference between WDM and MME.
Ps. Why tell...
I got the M-Audio AudioSport Duo which is the USB enabled Mic-Pre from KraftMusic.com for $259.
The USB driver installed easy enough, and I selected MME instead of ASIO since I am using Cakewalk's Sonar.
Let me say, first and formost that either the WDM driver is not ready for prime time or I...
I just got the tech21 sansamp classic. is anyone else using this? are you using it for DI or as a distortion stomp box?
i am really digging this thing. 90% of the time I'll be using it for clean recording. i mostly do r&b, reggae, go-go, and hip-hop and this thing makes my DI recording of a...
The Crest Factor is the difference between the average level and the peak. What is a good crest factor to attempt to achieve for a whole mix? let's say that the peak level is -0.3db, what should be the average level for a typical pop (ie... r&b, pop, hip-hop) recording?
Also, what's a good...
when you play the bass do you positionl your wrist so that your fingers come down on the strings (like a thump, but not a slap) or so that they go across the strings the same way that a pick would (like a pluck).
for those of you who care (autotune users who wanted to upgrade to win2k) antares has released its directx version of autotuneV3.
i love to record, and i can drop a note into a bucket, but i'm no crooner. i find that autotune makes my backup vocals good enough to demo my stuff to others.
forgive the cross-post i stuck a similar message in the mp3 mixing clinic, but give these 3 tracks a listen. i'm putting together a demo of my hip-hop song-writing/production skills.
i'm not a rapper, nor do i wannabe. but i figured that its easier to catch the vibe of the tracks with vocals...
i put together a 3 song production skills demo, and i'd love to have it critiqued by both hip-hop headz and hip-hop haters. i don't fancy myself a rapper, i just make beats, but i wouldn't mind the vocal critique either, especially as it regards to the quality of the vocal recording and the...
let's say that the loudest absolute peak is -0.1 and the loudest RMS level is -6db and the average RMS level is -12db
I use compression and set the threshold to -18db and the ratio to 1.5:1 and the gain to +3db. Now my loudest RMS level is -6db and the average RMS level is -9db.
Now comes the...
I like for my back vocals to be less dynamic than the lead, you know um... 'sit still' in the mix.
when i had a 700mhz cpu i mixed the back vocals tracks and then applied compression to the mix. Now i have the cpu cycles to compress the individual tracks, i've started compressing (as needed)...
the first song that i was attempting to record in sonar got mangled when i converted it from a .wrk to a .bun file. the audio tracks (bass, guitar, guitar ghost) play back with crackles and pops, but the vertical time guide never moves and the midi doesn't play.
when i open up a previously...
i upgraded to win2k so that sonar's latency will improve. now friggin' windows has set my soundcard, ethernet card, and ata100 raid to IRQ 11.
anyone know how to change these settings other than physically switching the cards on the motherboard?
i like the tone of this conklin groove tools 5-string, but it seems to have more pickup noise than the ibanez 300dx i had before.
how can i reduce the noise? is there some insulation of the wiring that i need to do?
i say my latency and not sonar in general because i don't know if it's the software or my hardware/pc.
when sonar is setup to monitor the input, the lag time between playing the note and hearing the note is very much noticeable. is it me or the software? i've tried decreasing the mix latency...
for my first hip-hop band track (which i'm sure will be a classic) i'm trying the following instrument placement:
C lead vocal
5% L kick , R bass
10% L hat, R snare
15% L cym, R cym
20% L other perc, R other perc
25% L piano, R organ
50%...
