Anyone see trouble w/ balanced inputs on the HD24?

Has anyone heard of problems with the TRS jacks on the HD24? I just traced and swapped my way through my connections to find that with a TRS I'm getting only a partial signal into the recorder at some of the inputs. A slight push up or down on the jack causes it to cut in or out. The same input...

RE20 for micing acoustics', 'working the mic live' or 'bluegrass' style work.

I've come to the conclusion that some of the RE-20's rather unique traits make it a real gem for micing acoustic instruments where the artists are working their own dynamics. I haven't found any of my other mics to be so consistent with varying working distances, nor seemingly as smooth both on...

Klien+Hummel. Check out this waterfall plot.

Go to the '0 500C', then 'Measurements'. It's near the bottom of the page. What is the significance of this? (Besides rubbing my nose in sh*t I can't afford.) Wow. http://www.klein-hummel.com/html/studio/studio_index_e.htm

Could Distressor color do what some pre's do for color?

Could the distortion effects available in a Distressor be near the effect of some of the nicer pre's out there -say fed by a pre from the clean' camp? I have RNP's and True Precision, no Neve or API for example. Wayne

Auditioning LSR6332 and others on the West Coast

I'm am trying to hear a good cross section of studio monitors for near and mid-field use in a medium size room. Whereas many of the speakers I would like to include are not stock items at the typical outlets, perhaps a viable option would be to find owners that would allow one to make a...

Can I safely do this to a pasive cross-over?

I have a JBL D-120/075/N2400 passive monitor. What I want to do is move the 12" speaker connections from the low-out of the crossover to the full-range x-over input terminals. This would leave the low freq. terminals disconnected (and un-loaded?) and allow me to dial the 075 in or out as needed...

Recommendation for an acoustic bass pickup?

I'm looking for a bridge p/u as a gift for my friend's stand-up bass. The one he had was lost, but I suspect it might have been a cheapy (sorry to say I don't know the brand) as it always needed a ton of eq to get the low end up anywhere near in balance with the highs. One thing I noticed also...

Are the combo DVD burners ok for CD-R masters?

Is there any need for a dedicated CD burner vs. going with a DVD/CD-R combination? Thanks Wayne

Try your delay plug instead of eq.

Take your two mics on a guitar cab for example, or a mic and di on bass on separate tracks. Insert a delay plug 100% wet on one mic or the di. If the're close in time to begin with play with 0.1--2ms . There are some wild eq effects in there to be had. It's the same as track sliding but you can...

May have found a place for that nasty C-3000

Yes, that lost and dejected original version. It has just come through on a hunch in a big way on bass cab. SWR 4-10 rig, Jazz bass, round wounds, dead center on the cone a few inches back with the pad on, it's slightly scooped compared to everything I've ever got with an RE-20. What's cool is...

Any SansAmp Bass Driver fans out there?

I was wondering what kind of mild collor/overdrive tones this one might be good for on bass DI duties. The price is nice, but seen some posts that indicate it might be a bit noisy? Wayne

    An eye opener on clocking.

Hopefully not in bad forum-form... Have y'all seen this? http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/t/2133/0 Even tossing out the rough stuff the goes on in the later portion of the thread, I put this one up in my ongoing ed. toolbox collection. Wayne

How do I get a drive from NTFS to FAT32?

In a failed attempt to reformat an HD24 drive to my XP DAW, I ended up at NTFS. I also selected 'dynamic' instead of 'partition' which may have been my first wrong turn. Unlike the other drives in the format tools, FAT32 is not one of the selections. Wayne

    What's a good double-head kick sound?

I've had just a few experiences with these kits, and maybe this last time the drum tuning wasn't up to snuff to begin with, but this has ended up been very frustrating and humbling. The session got postponed so I get a second shot at this one, but I had a ton of options and room to play a bit in...

    I think my 4047 survived...

..a five foot drop from a boom stand. :( It may have been cushioned a bit by some cables on the floor but it sounded like it took fairly solid hit. So far, it still sounded good (and normal) in front of a kit last night. But I'm wondering even if it seems ok, should I have it checked out any...

How hard would it be to fix the threshold on the BlueMax comp?

I got this thing out of the dust box for a second look. It still seems like there might be a decent compressor in there -the biggest problen right off is having compression kick in on almost all the presets, and even in manual mode(!) even with the input set -20! (Back button out = "+4"? NOT)...

How do you deal with mixing a string of songs? (Sorry, long..

This is about templates, trying to minimize keystrokes... :D I seem to be spending a fair bit of time mixing live projects. The biggest difference from a typical 'studio' collection (although this could spill into those easily too) is quite a lot of the same processing going to each song. A...

Ok. What about this really important stuff. (My Console view color scheme!

Are we stuck with that god awful dark blue grey? I can't find any options to edit the console main pane.
