    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

Why -6? I thought the best level is -18dB.

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

I tried to make it more convenient by working in reaper, but riding the Teac's knobs is probably easier for me. I'm already at the Clarett's minimum level - I'm aiming for between -18 & -12 when recording. (It would be helpful if there were one master on the interface to raise or lower all...

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

So by me reducing the signal in reaper, and rendering again, it basically has no effect? And the only way to reduce a hot signal would be to ride the 3340's knobs? (I see the use of a 'volume smoother' plug-in to achieve this on-line.) All I want is to have the faders at 0, with no clipping...

    Hard Drive Recommendations?

Thanks. These will only be for storing projects as they are completed - just audio, no video. I have a mac with a thunderbolt connection, which I guess is the fastest for this set-up. Yes, I know I will need 2, and was thinking of a raid, but they are pretty expensive, as I see.

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

I'm using the volume control on the actual track in Reaper: If rendering shows me I'm over by 3 dB, I'll decrease it here, and it comes up fine afterwards. (Before this, I was using the output control on the 3440 to reduce the signal if needed, but I find this is not a very accurate way.) I'm...

    Hard Drive Recommendations?

I'm quickly running out of space on my mac, so am looking for an external drive. I've used both G-Drive and Lacie drives, but now see contrasting reviews about their reliability (though that's to be expected when researching anything.) The Toshiba drives look promising, but the same confusing...

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

One thing slightly confusing to me is when I increase an input (say 3dB) when playing back the take, its 'mix' fader is up by 3 dB. (I thought it would be at 0.) Wouldn't this negate the dB increase if you return this fader back to 0?

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

I discovered this today when I had to boost a very low signal, and saw that +12 was the max I could increase it.

I see; like the trim knob.

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

Normalizing has me a little confused. If the signal to noise is no problem, why normalize? Shouldn't the levels be fine as they are?

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

The more tapes I transfer, the more varying levels I'm encountering. I'm keeping it all under clipping, but wondering if I'm being too conservative; some of the levels are reading -9, -12, etc. I guess it's better to be under than over, but some of the quieter stuff I'm boosting a little, though...

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

Weird thing happened today while transferring a tape: Upon playback, I noticed a dropout, though it sounded more like the tape was folded. When I checked the actual tape, there was no such glitch, so it occurred during the transfer. I did the transfer again, and there was no issue. But another...

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

Thanks - want to get it right at the beginning.

And this is the setting found under the media tab?

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

Yes - this icon disappeared when I connected the interface. As for the resample modes - these should be set to the highest quality?

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

These are the settings: but I'm wondering can this be the result of not having the interface connected, and listening through just the mac?

    Is this something of concern?

In a perfect world there would be a mixture of the two. Digi-logue?

    Transferring Multitrack Reels Into Computer?

I've been aiming for -18/-12 for the peaks - hopefully that's fine.
