    Demo cost?

I'm considering getting a couple of my songs made into quality demos (for pitching the songs, not pitching me as a singer), what's a good price for something like that? I don't know a whole lot of people in my area, so I don't want to put up ads or anything and just get random people to reply...

I recently updated my music website, and I added two more songs, bringing the total to three. They're here

"elevator pitch" -- I think I have one.

I've heard it's good to have an "elevator pitch" description of your music, so I came up with one. "Country Music of Life, Love, and Love Lost" What's everyone think of that? Too simple? Too vague? Thoughts? Opinions? Questions? Answers?

    Hey brendandwyer...

I checked out your tunes on your website. You're right...that music is hard to classify as any specific genre. The only thing that comes to mind to me is a bit of an oxymoron..."Acoustic Rock"...but that doesn't make any sense.

    more song lyrics...

I've had this one for a while. Just now posting it on here. Yes, I am aware that Reba McEntire has a song with the same title. "A Lighter Shade of Blue" © 2006, Monte Richardson V1: Baby when you left me, you left me down and out You tore my heart, my soul apart when you told me we were...

Question for anyone who has successfully pitched a song...

Ok, this has probably been asked before, but I'm asking again anyway. I realize every situation is different, and that a lot of rejection is involved. Let me be a little more clear. This question is more along the lines of what goes into a "demo" song that you want to pitch to a publisher (or...

Presenting...another song, "To Her The Armor Shines"

"To Her The Armor Shines" Copyright © 2006, Monte Richardson V1: She doesn't see me the way I do she sees me from her own point of view don't know why she loves me this much she's there for me when I need a crutch V2: Despite my imperfections she stands by my side she gave me her hand and...

    Been thinking about this...

I've been thinking about this as a possible "contest" on my website. What I've been thinking of doing is taking all the songs from my album (when it's finished) and copy them, in my own hand, into a nice notebook (leather bound cover, or whatever), and have a drawing for it. I know...probably...

Re-making a song, public domain, licensing question...

If you wanted to re-make a song "in the style of" a certain singer or group, but the song would otherwise be in the public domain (I think), I would think you would still need to secure a mechanical license for it. Is that correct? I'd like to record my own version of "Where Did You Sleep Last...

"You Still Won't Know (How Much I Love You)"

I've been on a jag lately...here's another I'm working on... "You Still Won't Know (How Much I Love You)" Copyright © 2006 Monte Richardson Baby I could buy you flowers, or write you love letters and you still won't know how much I love you. I could look in a dictionary to try to say it better...

    Yet another song...lyric opinions please.

"My Heart's Platinum" © 2006, Monte Richardson V1: Now I've heard many songs 'bout havin' a heart of gold Baby don't get me wrong but that's something I ain't got, you know V2: Now it may seem strange or unusual to some to admit I ain't got a heart of gold but baby I think you ought to know...

    Thinking of selling a guitar...

I haven't completely made my mind up yet, but I might decide to sell one of my guitars, and I need some thoughts on a price. I don't remember which year I bought it, but it's a black Takamine EG334-SBC. I think I've only had it for 5 or 6 years or so. There really aren't any blemishes on the...

    The Fender SplatterCaster...

Did anyone ever buy these? I saw them in Guitar Center a couple years ago. I wanted to buy one, but didn't have the cash. If you bought one, what did you think of it? What color was it, and what colors were the "splatters"? I don't think Fender makes them anymore, but I'd still love to buy one...

    Website opinions...

Ok, hopefully I can convey this well enough. I'm still working on my website, it's by no means done. It's basically a skeleton site, and I hope when it's done it'll be database driven, and done in either PHP or .NET, but that's beside the point. I guess my question is this: Would you rather...

    More lyrics..."A Father's Hope"

What's everyone think so far?? "A Father's Hope" Lyrics and Music by Monte Richardson Copyright © 2006 Monte Richardson V1: I have a son, and I'm gonna do my best to raise him right. I'll try to do what I can to make sure he lives a good life. I'll try to teach him honesty, integrity, and the...

Acoustic only -- Would you do it??

Probably a dumb question. I'm thinking about "retooling" my CD, and making it all acoustic (just me and my guitar). If I intend to sell this CD, should I even do this? Also, I've got a question about song lengths. I was working on a song over the weekend, and I left off a verse and the song...

Half & Half CD...for future reference...

Ok, here's what I want to do. I've got a CD project I want to do in the future that will be half rock, half country (can the Donnie & Marie jokes... :) ) Anyway, how would someone market, promote, and classify that type of CD if they were to sell it? If I sold it on CDBaby (or whereever) how...

    How's this?

It's a start... "The Next Great Love Song" Lyrics and Music by Monte Richardson Copyright © 2006, Monte Richardson V1: If I could put it into words, yeah if I could write it down If I could turn it into a song, it would be the most popular around If I could just find a way to express this love...

when you can't write down lyrics...

When lyrics hit you (a verse, line, or whatever) at an inopportune time, how do you remember it if you can't write it down (or whatever) immediately? Sometimes I'll have a great lyric hit me, and I won't be able to write it down...just wondering what you all do.

    Selling CDs on consignment??

Curious... Would music stores sell a CD on consignment? For instance, if I walk into XYZ music store and say to them, "Here are X CDs of mine. I'd like to put them on your shelf. I'll pay you Y% (let's say 25%) of the sales of the CD." So I put 50 of my CDs in XYZ music store for $10. XYZ...
