I've been using an EMU 0204 to take my line outputs from my tascam 488 to my laptop but the results seem to be a bit strange, there's like a small amount of echo on the whole track and it just lacks the fullness from the original, Is there an easy solution to this? thanks :)
Hi all,
I have a deadline tomorrow so I quickly recorded this one...unfortunately my voice isn't 100% at the moment but I had to get it done in some form or another, perhaps I'll come back to it when I can sing properly again. All comments welcome! :)...
Hi,
Recently came across this track on my computer...from what I can work out I was 15 at the time! I think it was recorded on a Tascam DP01 and I recorded the instruments then sang the vocal into a cassette dictaphone, played it back and mic'ed it up to record the vocals onto the DP01 haha...
Does it really matter? I'm recording on an 8 track cassette and wondering if it makes a difference to record a guide acoustic track, then drums, bass etc, then re-record the acoustic? Or not really necessary...? thanks :)
Has anyone ever tried making one? They're ridiculously expensive (probably with good reason) but I don't have £750+ to be forking out anytime soon and hiring one requires a deposit of £1000! Insane.
Hi, I've just refitted the capstan belt on my Tascam 488 but it seems to whirr more noisily than usually when I put a cassette in...is this a common problem when refitting belts and is there a solution? thanks
EDIT dropped some silicone grease onto the capstan shaft, left a cassette in there...
Hi, just replaced the capstan belt on my 488 and it seems to whirr more loudly than before when I put a cassette in..does anyone know why this would be, is it a common problem? thanks

I got a new belt in the post today, have taken the front of the machine and it looks like the belt is quite hard to get to.
What do I do next...
I've got a Tascam 488 mk II, should I get a pre-amp? I'm thinking a M Audio DMP3 or would there be not much difference seeing as there's already a pre-amp built in? I'm recording acoustic guitars, vocals, electric guitar, bass and drums. Cheers :)
Hi all,
There's a competition going at the moment for 3 young artists to win £30,000 each to fund their work for a year. My idea is essentially an album (as well as a video shoot) but someone else asked the judges if a pressed album would be enough...the response was...

Recently my recordings have been a bit 'warbly' - I think it's the belt that needs replacing and I also need to speed up the motor slightly. I really need it done as soon as possible...does anyone know if anyone in the UK is able to repair it? Or is there any suppliers in the UK? I don't really...
Hi, I'm recording on a Tascam 488 and going though an EMU 0204 to get it on my computer...the thing is, the monitor level on the tascam have to be way down, as do the gain knobs on the Emu, aswell well as the mic input level on the computer to avoid clipping...is this normal and is there a way...
I've got a Vox pathfinder 15 and I want to close mic it but the mic picks up too much hum from the amp. Is this normal and if so is there a way round it? I can move the mic away but then i have to turn the amp up anyway to get the same level, meaning more hum :S Do I just have a dodgy amp!?
I'd really like to know how to improve so comments more than welcome if you get a spare minute to listen! Also if anyone can compress it to good effect then please feel free...as it's a bit quiet. Cheers!

Ok so I don't have a bass pre-amp, I was thinking of plugging my bass into my amp, running the line out from the amp straight into the mixer...would this damage the speaker if it was muted because of the line out? Cheers
I've been using SA90s and I recently got some SA60s but playback seems to be slower...is this normal or is there something wrong with my cassette deck? Thanks
I've heard they're good for acoustics...at the moment I've got a AKG C1000 so surely a matched pair of NT5s will be a big difference? I can get a pair for £215 + £10 postage which are apparently basically new. Are Rode mic's usually genuines from ebay? I know there's a few fakes of some brands...
