    New Bass Body

Next came the electronics. Look at the pot on the left, it's missing the knobby thing. When I removed it from the old bass, the knob was on super tight and pulled the whole shaft out when I tried to take it off. I had to buy a new 500k pot with push/pull. $10 frikkin USD!!! Soldering...

    New Bass Body

I scrrrrratched that itch and sanded back the black. Did some other touch-ups. I'm no pro, but I like the way it's coming out. Almost done. This is the stuff I used for the lacquer clear coat.

Thanks RFR. Maybe on the next project. Too late for it now. :) Here's a mock-up with neck, pickups, bridge and knobs. Just about done. Ha!! Wow, the knobs look like they're photoshopped on there, but they aren't. They're actually sitting on the guitar. funny.

I'm not completely happy with the feathering, either. I'll sand most of the black off and do it again. There is a section where there is a definite hard line, then a feather. It should just flow from solid to feather without an interface. I'll fix that.

    New Bass Body

It came out real blotchy and I'm not sure why. Certainly wasn't like I expected based on all the you tube videos I watched. But it has a certain charm to it I like. Road Kill. There are some rough smudges where I accidently hit the wet paint when removing the template. I used the template to...

More progress.... I'll warn you, finishing a guitar is not my strong suit. In fact, it kicks my ass. Here's a mock-up. Gonna look nice. I drilled the holes for the neck screws and it chewed up some of the Alder. Wood putty and lots of sanding. Have I mentioned that you can fix anything with...

    New Bass Body

Here is the part I'm talking about. I think I can fillet this with the band saw and then clean it up. Do you have any experience with how it will look cutting through the maple to the alder underneath? I think it might be interesting with the grain. I have a piece I can practice on. If I do...

Making some progress. Got the neck pocket routed out. Not as accurate as I want, and a little sloppy on the sides, but it work okay. Here's a mock-up. Also got the pickup cavities routed out. Turns out on a jazz bass, the neck and bridge pickups do not have the same dimensions. The bridge...

    Blondie - Call Me (cover)

I rarely do covers and when I do, I don't share them with ANYONE. But.... I was listening to some old tunes on You Tube with my daughter some weeks ago and we came across this song. She loved it!! So, I recorded it for her and she sang it. She was going to do the solo on her violin and I...

    New Bass Body

Made more progress today. As noted, I cu the final shape a few days ago. It came out okay, but had a couple of dings along the way. Today I routed the edge to give a bevel. I've done this before on the walnut bass and didn't really have problems, this time not as good, but salvageable. Around...

    New Bass Body

Honestly, I don't know where I got the wood. lol. I went to a local WoodCrafters in Austin and looked for some wood about the size of a body blank, but they didn't have anything. I asked one of the sales reps and he gave me directions to a place that sold lumber. Lots of lumber. The wife and...

    New Bass Body

I wasn't happy with the way my parts-bass came out with the finish. It came out too dark and I tried a poly coat and that was a disaster. Plus the body was a Fender Jazz copy and I really don't like them. I cut down the droopy butt end and sharpened the horns, but it still looked like a jazz...

A problem with my audio interface and phantom power

Sounds like your computer allows the USB ports to go to sleep. Control Panel>Device Mgr>USB Hub> Power Mgmnt>Uncheck "Allow computer to turn off...." Do this for all your USB hubs.

Sure, I can show my rack, but it's pretty intimidating.... A rack isn't complete without an actual rack, so I included my desk rack, too.

CONTEST THREAD - who is worthy?

What? You Don't LIKE Ground Noise?

I've been zapped by an amp through my guitar. Yup. I was probably 14 or 15 yrs old. A friend gave me two 12" Celestions, so I built a cabinet for them. A big one. It was cool. Then I used an old PA amp. This one: I had to find an adaptor from 1/4 to screw-on, but Radio Shack had them...

How Close is Too Close? Redbook compliance.

I'm using Wavelab Elements 8 to put together a collection of songs for a CD. WLE8 automatically places the PQ codes and the user has no control over it. There is one transition where I want one song to go right into the next song with no space. I've got it where I want, sounds good, but the...
