Recording my V drums on Zoom R8 portable recorder

Looking at the manual, it has a separate output jack, but willing to bet it is basically the same as a headphone jack. So, all the advice given still applies. It does have MIDI, but you would need a virtual instrument to generate the sounds, like ezdrummer.

Recording my V drums on Zoom R8 portable recorder

One stereo line out? Guessing that's from the headphone outs then. If that's what it is, you'll need a Y cable to split the stereo cable into 2 mono cables. Then go into the Zoom using 2 inputs. Set to Line. Pan one channel hard left and the other hard right. If it is the headphone outs, I...

Pickup placement in a one-off bass build?

That's a guitar, not a bass. But yeah, even for a guitar, that's a pretty short scale. Mandolin territory. :) When my son was in middle school, I got him a short scale bass so he could play in the school's jazz band. I got to playin it when I was first starting with bass and it was a lot of...

Pickup placement in a one-off bass build?

Well, because I read something about Bronco and didn't bother to read anything about Ric. And, because the Jazz Bass is near the center of the universe... the center being the P Bass., of course. I think you might have answered your own question about magic ratios when you said the Ric and...

Pickup placement in a one-off bass build?

I would measure the distance from the nut to the center of each pickup on a jazz bass then calculate the ratio to a short scale. When I did my fretless, I put the bridge pickup too close to the bridge and the strings cannot impart enough energy to create any kind of real volume. So, there is...

How Many Guitars do you own

I've been selling off my collection. I'm down to 4 basses and 3 guitars. Basses Fender MIM P Bass (Weighs a ton, but it's got THAT sound) Ibanez Acoustic bass (I use this for practice. No cables, amps, etc, just pick up and play) hand built fretted (my main bass. It sounds and plays awesome)...

Mics for under $100 - that just may work for you.

This thread keeps popping up over the years. :) I just posted my old MXL V57M on eBay. I've always said it was a great sounding mic. Darker than most chinese knock-offs. It doesn't have that harsh high end. MXL discontinued it and didn't really have a follow on product. Used, but still a...

Splitter Cable, splitting 1 condenser microphone output to two inputs for Apollo solo usb

Those apollos are expensive, I wouldn't risk the chance. Record the vocal without the unison plug. Then in your DAW, copy the track so you have two copies, apply the unison plug to one track and your other processing to the 2nd track.

TC Helicon Voiceworks mic gain pot loose

I agree, buy another one except keep it, don't return it. If you're gigging that much, you should have a backup for everything. I'll sell ya my old one. TC-Helicon Harmony G-XT.

What are good laptops to get?

I got this HP a few years ago. It has been working great. In late 2019, I recorded my band at a gig using 16 tracks for 4 hours without a problem. I will probably be recording another band here soon. Recently tried editing and rendering video. It worked pretty good, I was surprised. Almost as...

DR-40x is it ok using different types of mics at the same time?

I am in the camp to turn phantom power off when connecting or disconnecting mics. It's not difficult to do. However, I do recognize that it isn't necessary in most cases. When I mentioned the warning in my post above, I was reiterating what was written in the DR40 manual. Don't know why they...

DR-40x is it ok using different types of mics at the same time?

I have the DR40 and I might have recorded with different mics in the past. Can't remember. However, it won't be a problem. There are two warnings when using external mics. 1) Don't turn phantom power on until after the mics are connected. 2) Do not use phantom power with a ribbon mic. So for...

    Overloading CPU and Crackling MIDI

Also look at "Freezing" tracks. It is similar to rendering a mixdown, but it stays within your current mix session/project. Most DAW software can freeze a track. After freezing, be sure to disable the plugs to free up system resources. And that video Keith posted was very informative. I'll be...

What drives you crazy about tutorial videos?

The most immediate reason to click away from a tutorial is when the video audio is horrible. If you can't get your video narrative to sound good, how are you going to convince me you are credible? You aren't.
