Thoughts on mains panel location and interference

You should not have any noise from the main panel nor the transmission lines across the park. The only time you would have such issues is when you have multiple grounds and they are connected through patch cables. But if everything goes back to the same ground bus in the main panel, you'll be...

    Basic oscilloscope help

On the far left bottom corner is a little metal tab. You can clip your probes to that for testing. It says you should see 2v p-p @ 1khz. (p-p means peak to peak. Very top of sine wave to very bottom)

Yamaha keyboard with MIDI (USB type B connector)

What is giving you the error message? Reaper? or Windows? The sound card shouldn't make a difference if you are trying to send MIDI data to the keyboard, Be sure to read the manual to fully understand how to use MIDI. Remember, MIDI isn't audio, there is no sound, it's only data to tell a sound...

Yamaha keyboard with MIDI (USB type B connector)

On second thought, there might not be converters available that go from USB-B to 5-pin midi. So yeah, just plug your keyboard into your PC.

Yamaha keyboard with MIDI (USB type B connector)

looks like it has midi over USB. There are converters available. Or simply plug your keyboard straight into your computer. Do not need to go through the 4i4.

    Recording mics (newb questions)

I took it to mean he was double-tracking, but now reading this, maybe he isn't. Kenny, if you're recording the vocal take only once and sending it to two tracks, that isn't going to get you anything. If you're recording your vocal take twice, that is called double-tracking. It can sound great...

    Recording mics (newb questions)

phnatom power is okay for the dynamic mic. Not needed, but won't hurt it. You can double track your vocals, but you've got to be good at singing it twice exactly the same. Otherwise it won't sound good. Personally, I track vocals once and call it good. (even if it isn't - lol)

    Steinberg/Cubasis upgrade

And that is the way it should be done. On topic, There are the lighter versions of Cubase that aren't expensive. Is it called Artist or Element? Can't remember. You certainly don't need a full blown version. Refurbished and near new PCs and laptops can be purchased pretty cheap. You don't need...

Recording Music on a Video, from a Voice Recorder

Not familiar with the LG phone, but with the iphone, there is a video editing app (free) where you can do exactly what you are asking to do. Something like that would be the right solution. Or, in the social platform, there might be a way to add your BG music. It would be better than holding a...

Recording direct from Mesa Boogie 5/50 combo amp

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure a good, quality guitar cable will be fine. If it isn't, then you buy a shorter cable.

Recording direct from Mesa Boogie 5/50 combo amp

For sure it's unbalanced, though the manual doesn't specify. But effects loops are designed so you can plug stomp boxes into them, which are unbalanced. The manual does caution to use short, well-shielded cables. That warning wouldn't be necessary if the connections were balanced.

stacking insulation rolls as corner bass trap?

Your room is a little bigger than mine. When adding absorption to a room, you don't really notice a difference until you listen to your mixes on systems other than your studio. I think I never really had my low end under control and I was always playing a guessing game. How will it work for...

stacking insulation rolls as corner bass trap?

I had rolls of pink fluffy stuffed behind OC703 panels in all four corners. The panels straddled the corner making a triangle shaped void which I put the roll of pink fluffy. I did that based on ideas brought up here at HR. I don't know if it actually helped my low end or not. My studio is...
