This video is old and has been argued over ad nauseum on Gearslutz. It's an unscientific rambling of one person who provides no evidence to back up their conclusion. It's a belief system so you either agree or you don't but it does not prove anything at all. YMMV
Your best bet is to record from the outside as the car drives by as mics capable of getting a decent sound of only the exhaust while being out in the wind blast are going to be pricey IME.
I have used a 57 on a Taylor and got great results. Oddly enough by using Shure's suggestion for mic placemnet from the paperwork that comes with any new in the box 57.
IIRC it was something along the lines of 1-5" from the guitar fretboard and move along the length until you are happy with the...
I think that those of us who end up playing and/or recording music are also those who have felt the profound effect a song can have on maybe a bit deeper level than the average listener. That was a bit of a run on sentence so I hope it is understandable!
Solsbury Hill , Sweet Emotion are a...
With real guitars or sim it's nice to differentiate them using eq . Even different parts can benefit from one that is eq'd with more upper mid/high end and the other side more low mid. Any kind of difference helps to create interest
Slow down and start with basics.
Reverb (reverberation) is a naturally occurring phenomena, right? When you listen to anything, but especially a performance, there will be reflected sound that will help your ears define the space you are in and where in that space the sound source is. This is...
If I am finding issues with background pitch I will record a keyboard track of the notes to be sung and mute the lead track so the keys track can be copied vocally without the lead mess with the singers head. Use a patch that can do the correct note lengths.
I bought a Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 IV 2x12" 60-watt Tube Combo Amp last March but it was with the express idea of having something a lot cleaner to record than the amps I already have. My personal preference is to record crunch type parts with small amps with 8-10 inch speakers. Even an...
There are so many types of insurance that I feel blanket statements are bound to be misleading. In most cases it is "the house" taking a bet that something that might go wrong does not happen. If available the company will use actuarial data to determine liability and therefore, cost to the...
I found that normal home owners insurance will not cover all of my equipment so check the sub clauses-especially concerning "electronics". Don't forget "replacement" cost can be considerably higher than what you originally paid for an item. Either way you may have to look at specialty insurance...
The trace appears to show the bracket sides joined together which would tend to indicate that is the ground side and you can double check that by locating the ground side of the power supply since it should be on the same trace.
If you want to spend the chedda their are several digital mixing desks with 32 mic inputs plus aux's, etc. Most are expandable with Cat5/6 connectable rack mount mic pre's. The board itself outputs on a single USB channel to you computer making it an effectively over sized extended interface.
So I finally got a chance to listen to these and here are my thoughts on the processing:
Because of the Fletcher Munson curve louder is ALWAYS going to sound more exciting to the human ear which is why as mixers we are supposed to volume match when going through processors(except a limiter). It...
I tend to record without processing except for bass guitar. About 50% of the time (depending on the arrangement/genre) I put the bass DI track through a compressor on the way in, though, oddly enough, I don't usually compress the bass amp mic. In fact, I think its only happened a couple of...
