How would you pan a drummer in the mix that has both high hats and the ride on the same side?

I would try various setups where you don't use standard wide-panned over-heads Recorderman would be a good candidate. I'd be tempted to try putting the stereo mics in an X/Y configuration between the hat and ride (facing sideways) So you'd still get stereo between those two, but then the rest of...

Non Drummer Songwriters Using EZDrummer 3 "Bandmate" Info...

Ehhhh... I didn't care for it very much. More or less, it tries to do some beat detection and then picks a kick-snare pattern that matches it. Then it offers you a selection of hat/ride patterns over top of that kick-snare.

Is a short scale 28-30" bass something needed in an instrument collection?

I've got a Rondo ~30" and a Corsair ~24". I've found they're good for modding. When it comes to bass, I like a little heft to my instrument. But shortscales are fun to do interesting alt basses with.

Do stacked plugins with their mix knobs set to zero impact the sound?

Really depends on what the plugins do and how well they do it. It's a digital signal, if a plugin returns the exact same sample out for each sample in when zeroed out, then your premise is correct. But if they do any processing at zero, it'll have some effect (tho maybe not an audible one) Say...

    Capo

You picked up the standard, clamp-style capo, which honestly is probably the best if you don't need the fancy spider, cut, or third-hand type functionality. That said, the primary use of capos is to annoy your bassist and keyboardist by calling out the wrong chords constantly. "You're capo 3...

    Mastering without compression?

I'm sure there are limits to it, but streaming services nowadays will automatically boost/limit your mixes to match the overall volume of the platform. In the 90s through late 2010s, mastering a recording to commercial standards did require compression. When working with analog formats...

    Mixing two MP3 files

This is the correct answer. The actual data in an mp3 file is several steps removed from simple sample data that can be additively combined. It must be decoded to raw audio to work with it meaningfully If you're trying to build a c++ executable to do it, LAME is probably the simplest starting...

    Mixing two MP3 files

If you're trying to make a self-contained executable, it's going to need to include a codec no matter what you do - or at least have the ability to import one. LAME is probably the best-known publicly usable library for processing MP3s That said... does it need to be C++? You could do it all...

Windows 7 v Windows 10 for music production?

I was gonna say, the main disadvantage of using an old OS (assuming your process works) is that you're not getting security updates anymore. If you run an old computer offline, that problem is mitigated.

    MP3 forum Best of.

Is Gonzo still around? I muted him some years ago when I realized that I was either gonna end up doing that or trying to post his halloween song before him (and the former seemed a better way to keep the peace)

    MP3 forum Best of.

It's not particularly difficult; it would just require licensing the cover tunes. But it would greatly increase the cost of production. (On average, 10 cents per cover song per copy made) But yes, if I were to head up this project, I would only consider members' original songs.

    How to license my music?

That sounds pretty scammy. So one of my bands licensed our first album in a similar way. (i.e. we worked with a 3rd party that negotiated contracts and technical details to get out music placed in libraries for general use by major TV companies.) Aside from the scammy radio campaign they made...

    MP3 forum Best of.

There's no compelling reason it couldn't be done. Someone (i.e. probably you) would just have to take the initiative to compile a list of candidate songs, contact folks to get their permission to use them, clear the cover licenses, master the sampler, design cover art, make the media, and...

Bass Pedal that gives a acoustic bass sound

There's a ton of acoustic simulator pedals for electric guitar. What happens when you run a fretless through one of those? Since basses are simpler instruments, I'd be a little surprised if there isn't a decent bass version already even. Honestly, it's probably a matter of dialing in EQ and...

    Building an Audio Recording PC

Probably the best way to future-proof your recording PC is to protect it from the future. Pick a software platform that will be what your PC uses (e.g. Windows 10, Reaper 6.x, whatever). Get that fully configured. Then unplug the computer from the network and leave it as a dedicated audio...

    Building an Audio Recording PC

PC technology outstripped the requirements of audio recording quite some time ago. Saying you need to spec out a computer for audio these days is kind of like saying you need to spec it out for image editing. Sure you might see some performance improvement from that extra 16 GB or RAM, but your...
