I am looking for some replacement knobs for a gift for a friend who is in a metal band. I found some neat skulls on MF, any other reccomendations? Thanks.
No wonder she's such an awesome singer: it's that innovative mic technique. I'll be trying it later today and post clips. I hope to sound exactly like Shakira.
I apologize if this has been done to death, but the search function honestly will not work for me today.
I really prefer the sound of a mic'ed bass cab to a di, call me crazy, it's just what I like. I use sdc for accoustic guitars, dynamic for guitar cab, and ldc for vox... What kind is...
How is a de-esser different than a one-band eq? It seems like all it does is take out (to a specified degree) a specific frequency. I'm just starting to try one (it came with my DAW), but so far I can't tell the difference. Thanks for your help.
Just watched Les Claypool's DVD with several of his acts on it, including oysterhead, during which Trey Anastasio plays a guitar with an antler attached. He seems to achieve a theremin-type effect with it, and I just wondered if anyone knew anything about how this guitar worked. Googled it...
What is the first thing you do with bad vocal tracks to hide/improve them? Obviously, replacing them with good vocals would be the thing to do, but it's not an option for me for this one song. A friend recorded a song for his wife for her birthday. The guitars are fantastic, but that's...
My son has been obsessed with drums since he was about 1.5 years old. Unfortunately for him, it's about the only instrument not in my house (maybe that's the reason for the obsession, but anyway...) So for his 3rd birthday I got him a kit that fits his size perfectly and seems to be of sturdy...
I am having trouble mixing keyboard sounds, namely organs, with mic'ed sources such as vox and guitar cab. The organ sounds pretty OK to me through the headphones by itself, but as soon as it's in a mix it sounds crappy, artificial, sort of like a video game or something. It's not a supercheap...
My organ sounds are OK through my headphones, but they sound terrible in the mix with other instruments. I have a roland card called "keyboard of the 60s and 70s" on my ancient JV-80 with lots of organ sounds I like when playing through headphones. However, when traked and puit in the mix with...
I'm considering upgrading my reverb, or just not using reverb at all anymore. The only time I use it is on my own vocals, which are not very good. It sorta obscures them, like putting vasaline on a camera lens when photographing an ugly chick. I have never liked it on anything else in my...
I like fruity loops, have been having lots of fun. My big problem is mixing and using the massive set of effects well. I am able to make beats well enough for my taste, but they always have this cheesy, $100-keyboard timbre to them. Is there somewhere I can download .flp's by people who know...
Being self-taught, I could easily be missing out on some really basic concepts, so I apologize if this is a dumb question:
I watched "Let it Be" the other day and noticed that Paul was sometimes recorded with two mics taped together. That gave me the idea to record vocals with two very...
I saw a very unique looking bass at a show last night. It has a scroll and f-holes. Anyone have any idea what it is? Had to take two pictures because singer was in the way.
I am getting distortion from my bass, from the instrument itself, it seems. Is that possible? I played it through a couple different preamps (all cheap)* with differing levels of gain, and even when the lights are in the green, the lower notes, played with any kind of force whatsoever makes it...
How do you record a moving target?
I love the things my son says and especially how he sings. I am dying to record him, but, at the age of 2.5, he's tough to nail down. I can't get him to sit still without ruining the crazy mood that makes him belt out songs like "A-1" (his favorite condiment...
I may be a little insane, like most parents I know, but I'm considering getting drum kit for my 2-year-old. Drums are about the only instrument that we don't hve in the house (I mean a kit, we have several handheld percussion implements). Of course, if I'm going to invest in a kit, my wife...
I'm curious to hear how others here record their digital pianos. Right now I either use the preamps on the front of my digi 001 or my ancient mackie 12-channel mixer. I tried my RNC compressor on it several diffrent times/ways, but didn't really like it.
What kind of preamps/effects do you...
I apologize if this thread shows up twice, I tried earlier today...
On the album "Here Come the ABC's" by They Might be Giants, there is a guitar effect I find very cool and would like to duplicate at home if I can. On trach 21, "D is for Drums," in the intro, when he "flicks" deadened strings...
