    Songs from a Broken Corral

Having a good harmonica sample pack helps if you mimic how a real one is played, and that’s hard. Remember we are a recording forum so our song writing always includes production techniques. Clearly most people want to show off what they do as well as they can. I think the comments do make...

Does my audio still have room echo?

They just soak up more too end. Boxiness comes from parallel walks that reflect too much mid. As you get with thin foam. Your space is bigger and full of ‘things’ which reflect and refract.

    Songs from a Broken Corral

The clicks are sort of mechanical sounding clicks? The harmonicas are real and vsti's then? I'm struggling a bit to describe the overall feel. Sterile? Maybe? It just sounds a bit raw. Rhythm wise, maybe I misdescribed. It's loose. you hear one guitar and how it's picked and strummed and your...

Does my audio still have room echo?

What exactly do you want to treat the walls for? This is getting silly. You ask us, we tell you, you ignore it and carry on about the curtains? It sounds fine. Unless you can focus on what it is you don't like - you won't make progress. If you want to improve the whole thing, the next thing is...

    Songs from a Broken Corral

Not sure what you mean about the 96KHz/24 My hearing at similar age means 48K for me is giving me HF I can't here. The presentation is a bit unusual. it's odd to have your voice panned left and the guitar right, and it sounds totally raw. I left soundcloud playing while typing - and it started...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

The best way to think about M/S is to image you have the mid mono mic signal, and it's right in the middle, between your two speakers. The side signal gets blended in and the side faders essentially push it left and right, away from centre. The amount, is the level of the audio in the side channel.

    Getting royalties for a cover.

Songtradr, ditto and a couple of others. I've been looking for tiktok users - and found this person using my power of love track. The ones that get me are when I originally used Distrokid, but they froze my account because they suspected I used a 3rd party app to cheat, something I have never...

    Getting royalties for a cover.

I've just had a royalties payment and was going through the spreadsheet. It reveals all sorts if you dig in deep. In the UK there is a big department store chain called John Lewis, and they used one of our band tracks on a radio advert campaign last year and it generated a fair bit. I also...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

We never found out what quesne was recording. All the sound files are a single person speaking. He said originally he was recording his daughter. Was this her playing a guitar, or the two of them singing? We never actually heard any music, so weve been talking about recording one person’s voice...

Does my audio still have room echo?

There is NO echo. It does not sound ‘boxy’. It is pretty dead. With the curtains down, the HF rolls off even more. The distance you are from the mic works fine. The sibilance is under control. The plosives are not an issue. My space has more reflections that your and I am happy with it. For...

Three mics on saxophone and one is a Tube mic

Yes its cardioid for the MXL, and the 414 was also set to cardioid and flat. Not being a tube person, i forgot how hot they get!

    WAV vocal recording?

You said convert from and MP3. If the vocals are already in MP3 format, I'd avoid converting if you can because you then have to convert back to MP3, so that is multiple lossy conversions.

Three mics on saxophone and one is a Tube mic

Following from the sax video the other day, somebody said the 4033 audio tecnica mic was thin - so I tested it along side an AKG 414 and an MXL 76 tube mic. The 4033 was by comparison far too thing and bright. Something for me to remember.

Does my audio still have room echo?

You keep trying to apply rules. My home studio was built into an extended garage. Not wide, but 30ft long. Divided into two rooms. These were room within rooms so sound proof, but sounded boxy. I needed traps, and panels on the walls and ceiling to tame the sound. Sound proof and sound treated...

Does my audio still have room echo?

They are quite oppressive to work in - the image on the right is better - but that screen is a non no - reflective and spoils everything the tiles do? The left ones is like the tiny spaces in outside broadcast truck - they sound very strange and mixes you do translate very differently to what...

Does my audio still have room echo?

Small tubes? If you mean those vocalshields that are popular, they're just foam so good if the rear of the mic picks up reflections from a wall - they help, but again, foam only works higher up. I've got one, and they are just a bit odd to work with. My studios aren't a problem. So they don't...

The German Martin Miller Band Videos

Not sure if you US folk have come across this group of people - some of the stuff is amazing (especially the Police Medley) but this one - because I liked Gary Moore, is pretty good.

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

Yes, another that just looked nice. It plays ok, but not one I would turn too that often. I have a chickenbacker 12 string, a 335-ish red one, and a darker wood LP too.

Do you want to see a Chinese one, Dave, or will you get zombie eyes and growl?
