    Tascam LA-40 Info Needed

Bumping up an old discussion. Is it correct to presume when it comes to the Inputs and Outputs that are numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4, that are in the front & back of the original LA-40, that the connectors must match in order for any signals to pass thru? In other words, there are Rca, 1/4" and XLR...

    Tascam M-30 Overdubbing Questions

Thanks SB. Actually, its not like I did anything wrong, in fact, my observation about the headphones was correct, I was just wondering about it, to see if I overlooked anything, but you verified that I was on the right track all along. I realize an old Operating manual wont provide every detail...

    Tascam M-30 Overdubbing Questions

When headphones are plugged into the M-30's front jacks, my observation is that the Monitor knob has to be turned up in order to get sound thru the headphones, if the Monitor knob is down (off) the headphone knob will not put out any sound at all by itself. The orange pan/gain knobs also...

    Tascam M-30 Overdubbing Questions

Yes the headphone knob itself does not increase the volume, it only does so when the Monitor knob is turned up. In order to separate the headphone level from the speakers volume level when playing music is to switch from the Monitor out jacks to the Submix Out jacks. When that is done, the...

    Tascam M-30 Overdubbing Questions

PS: Just to clarify, yes, my previous post was focused on getting the headphone music louder and the monitor speakers, which is playing the same music cd, softer. I don't know if I missed something, but I can't get any sound in the headphones despite the headphone knob being up to max. The only...

    Tascam M-30 Overdubbing Questions

Bumping up an old discussion- it might be several years old, but thats ok, some very useful information can be found from the knowledgeable folks who took the time to describe all the various details back then, which does not go to waste when someone such as myself, who recently acquired an...

Tascam Cassette 4-track Appreciation Thread...Vote For Your Favorite!

Hello SB: I always appreciate the useful info you provide. You are correct in that the Porta 05 and similar Porta models to that one have various limitations. I'm not sure what took hold of me to get an urge for a vintage cassette multitrack, but I was just browsing at the two main places I...

This review was not so great, thus why I was wondering if an external mixer connected to the Porta 05's line out jacks could help with overcoming some of the 05's limitations when recording/mixing. https://planetbotch.blogspot.com/2012/02/tascam-porta-05-ministudio-1987.html

Tascam Cassette 4-track Appreciation Thread...Vote For Your Favorite!

Bumping up an old post. I was just in the mood to explore vintage cassette multitracks- thus I have been watching various tutorials on You Tube, and I was curious on current prices for Tascam portastudios on Reverb and Ebay. I am surprised that prices for ones that still work well or...

vintage or modern mixers with great eq (on a budget!)

Thanks for the info, I have the Tascam book that celebrated its 30th? anniversary, was very interested to read and learn how the company grew and expanded over the years.

vintage or modern mixers with great eq (on a budget!)

Yes, there was no doubt that the M-30 is a higher level than the M-106. The M-30 came out in '82, three years before the M series was updated again with new models such as the 520/12, 308, 208 & 106. So, perhaps a '3' series to 3 would be more comparable than a 3 to a 1. As you probably know...

vintage or modern mixers with great eq (on a budget!)

I will deep-dive more into their op manuals, but my initial impression would have thought it would be the opposite, the larger the more full featured mixer would have the extra faders rather than the smaller model.

vintage or modern mixers with great eq (on a budget!)

The M512 that came out in 1985 is an upper level model, so I would think its EQ section would sound very good. Maybe you're overlooking something in your overall setup, causing it to sound as you perceive, which can be tweaked and improved. I have always liked vintage Teac/Tascam mixers...

Why does the Tascam m-106 have PGM out 1-4 and only monitor out with no faders?

Yes, its great to have Sweetbeats on the forum, sometimes I'm away for a while and get sidetracked by other things, but its nice to see the detailed information he often provides upon returning here- cheers! I have an M-106 along with a few other mixers in my collection, the largest being a...

    Should I Buy A Tascam 388 In 2024

Thanks for clarifying, but in comparison, would a separate 308 and 38 be lacking in any significant way to justify using a 388 instead, along with the price to buy either of them and the maintenance/repair concerns.
