Is there a particular method key or scale you like to write in?

I've gotten more song ideas in the shower than any other place. I know it's a cliché...but for some reason it just happens, and it's not something I consciously think to do. I'll just be moving along, and then a melody pops into my head. I don't know if it's anything to do with the sound of the...

Is there a particular method key or scale you like to write in?

I use the ass-in-chair method for writing the lyrics and developing the message. AFA the key/scale...it's whatever I hear in my head at the time, and then I'll flush it out at the piano usually, sometimes with guitar. At that point I'll try a few different keys to see if it works better...

    Best bass rig ideas

Same here...I record bass DI like 99% of the time...and I don't mean into some bass amp modeler...just DI. I found that FET-based DI inputs seem to always sound best with bass guitar...or it just might b e the case with mine. These days my go-to bass DI is the one on my Langevin DVC unit. After...

    You know what is weird

You know...that thing that's always puzzled me immensely is not where/how kids are able to afford more audio toys than when I was a kid... ...rather it's trying to understand how some of the upstarts in the audio/studio biz are able to build/open studios that probably cost a couple of million...

    You know what is weird

Like what...really? I assume you're still talking about climate change. It's so easy to complain and blame...and expect that "someone" has the perfect answer, they just need to do it, and everyone will be happy with that solution...but really isn't one...and the idea that we (the little people...

    You know what is weird

HUH??? :wtf: What the heck does that ^^^ have anything to do with the discussion about the world economic/industrial situation and why kids today have/want more gear...? Stay focused. ;) You didn't really just go there....Greta and climate change. :D My advice...stop watching...

    You know what is weird

I'm sure the things you thought were necessary, and the things that interested you in your younger days...the older generations the came before you, all thought the same way you think now. I'm not sure what "disaster" you are predicting...but we can't live in the past, and while the future may...

    You know what is weird

I find that more and more these days, people who don't have, like to blame people who do have, for their shortcomings. It's the easy answer to a lot of things...blame someone else, or try to take it from those that have it rather than earning it on your own. When you consider a country like...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

OK...but the minute you use it...or I use it...or someone else uses it...it's going to sound a little different, and THAT is really the point. Talking about how it's the same when it's still in the box, unused...I mean...what's that got to do with anything? Why is that important to point out? A...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

No...actually you are oversimplifying the process of making sound and recording. You talk about amps having "tone" without anyone playing them...??? You want to remove the player from the equation...but there is NO sound without a player, so it's a critical piece of the puzzle. Yes...we were...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

You can take a guitar amp, and depending on the way a person plays, the amp will sound different from person to person because there is a reactive relationship between the player, the guitar and the amp. This is not on some "microscopic" level as you say, but actually quite obvious to a lot of...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

He said different...not "better". You keep saying that because it makes your straw man arguments more valid...because you don't hear any differences. Honestly...get out of the box for a bit, put aside the MIDI and the samples and the presets, and go play and/or listen to some acoustic/live...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

I think you could take most guitar players, and they would be able to pick up 10 of the same guitars, and find 1-2 that they preferred because they were different from the rest...and the same thing with amps. To the untrained ear, everything will sound the same...but there is a delicate...

:laughings:  If you can't hear the subtle nuances and differences in real world...do you really think you will hear them from cell phone video quality?

And this approach is what you think makes for good music...everything the same, quantized for accuracy...? OK...I guess we all have our styles and preferences. Yeah...my amps all sound the same when no one is playing them. :D You're arguing that the same brand/model of gear sounds the...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

If all you ever play are presets and patches...then you will not understand. Get out of the box. Pick up a real guitar...go sit at a real piano...or a real drum set. No two people will play them exactly the same or sound exactly the same. It's like singers. They can sing exactly the same...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

See...that's why you don't hear a difference. You're stuck on the MIDI patches and presets thing.

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

And THAT pretty much sums it up... The whole point is that no two people will play "similarly"...so it will not sound the same. You really need to get off the player piano and MIDI data mentality about music and how it is made. An instrument is a tool, but everyone uses the tool a bit...
