advice on where to go next

well, after asking SO many questions... I am at a kind of frustrating place here. I am tracking ONE track at a time through my Alesis Studio 32 into my Echo Mia card, and at this time it's just about all I can afford. I have a pretty decent range of mics, and what I want to be able to do is...

    multitrack recorders...

hate to ask such a vague question... I know of the DA-88 digital multitrack. What others are pretty decent units? I am running everything one track at a time right now through my Alesis Studio 32 into my Echo Mia card... ONE track at a TIME. Kinda getting sick of THAT! Jimmy

    Peavey PVM-520i

I had read a few things on this mic a while back. One of the things I read was that this mic was acceptable for miking kick drums... Do you guys have thoughts on this? *a lone voice calls out for Track Rat...* Anyone?

    Shure Beta Green 4.0 Condenser

What do you folks think of this mic? It's a larger diameter than the ECM-8000's I got, and I have no idea how it stands up to a mic like the MXL-603.

The difference between Dave Matthews and Bono

What a weird title... Anyhow: I always wonder about different performers and their choice of live microphones... For example, Dave Matthews uses a Neumann KMS-105 for his shows, and Bono (U2-duh!) uses a damn SM-58 wireless. Of course Bono jumps around a lot... Do you think there's a...

a question about mics pertaining to percussion...

I read on here about miking drums, and that you should use *this* high SPL mic for *THIS* drum, and so on and so forth for kicks and such... of course, the idea is to get the best recorded sound. Can you do something crazy, like use an Oktava Mk219 on the toms, Shure BG4's on the snare, your...

    acceptable kick drum microphones

besides the Sennheiser e602, the AKG D112, and the Shure Beta 52, are there any other kick drum mics that you folks suggest? I want to get one... I have been using an SM-57... Sorry! Jimmy

"I get high with a little studio help from my friends..."

I was hoping to get some advice from you guys about what I *might* need... I am getting my studio (ha ha) up and running, and I have followed just about all of the advice I have gotten from you HomeRecc'ers (thank you, BTW)... I want to throw down my list here, and get some suggestions as to...

    bye bye Echo Mia

Well, my Echo Mia card is getting to be a little less than I need. Can you guys suggest something else? I know little about these cards, and I want to get something better, maybe something from a different company, but I have a budget of about three-hundred. Any suggestions?

I'm looking at the specs on my E-100 (CAD)... SPL... What is this? SPL at 142 dB... Obviously I know what deciBels are... Oh... By the way, if anyone cares... GO BUCKS! (i'm at Ohio State... I have to care...) Jimmy

    mic'ing a grand piano...

I looked around here for this, couldn't find much. Are there any materials out there, or posts HERE better yet, that explain the correct way to mic a grand piano? (spatial considerations have been addressed. this will be done in a 600 seat theatre, with an electric bass, electric guitar, 2...

Sorry for the explination type question... What exactly is this unit? It looks as though it takes some kind of tape... And you can chain 6 of them together with the remote??? WOW: Someone please explain to me what this is!

    DAT Machine query...

Does anyone still use a DAT recorder? I have been thinking about getting one, but I can't make a definite decision as to what kind or which brand to choose. I like the Panasonic ones because of the XLR-inputs, but do you guys have a favorite? What do you use them for the most?

the little adaptor for stereo miking

what's that thing called that you strap two small diaphragm condensers to for recording things like choirs, concerts, and the like? Where would I look to get one? I want to try and use one for overheads... jimmy

    why on EARTH...

You know, being a musician, this is a really weird concept for me... I was just visiting the TemperMill Studio site, and I saw pictures of what HAD to be 20 amplifiers and guitars and such. WHY do recording studios need so many instruments? Isn't this stuff supposed to be supplied by the...

    any big names?

this probably doesn't belong here, but oh well... Have any of you folks recorded any big names? I often visit your studio sites, and some of you have some pretty heavy names on your sites! Just curious! Jimmy

    overhead issues

okay, now I checked the Microphone Primer page for an answer with this, and I can't find one I like... There are a few techniques I have read about concerning cymbal overheads (we're doing a small 3 piece band session for some original tunes I've written this friday...) and I can't determine...

    Echo Layla 20 Bit?

Could someone explain the real benefit of the Echo Layla 24 bit interfaces to me? I have the opportunity to purchase a 20 bit Echo Layla, and it seems like SUCH a good deal. What's the difference? Is there a REAL difference? Sorry for the silly question... Not so silly to me! Jimmy

How would you rate the D-190E?

I posted this question a while ago, but I can't find the response... Well, how WOULD you rate it? I have had pretty decent experiences with my pair, and from what I understand the Beaatles used to use it as a snare mic. Is it good for anything else?
