    Rock On v2

Although I'm unused to hearing vox in your works, Keir - you have a good voice. Let's hear a smidge more of it. Think like a producer, though - and when there's a desired elevation in energy of the vocal? Add some production interest - like additional voices (dupes etc ...) that boost the part...

    May Angels Guide

I'm not religious in the least - but I do believe angels walk among us. Following a comment in another thread, I was wondering about the percussion parts in this one. Are they too prominent as well? I'm seeking whether I'm just rather fond of them and perhaps bringing them a tad too forward...

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

It's all just an opinion. It's not negative. It's helpful - so thank you!

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

Got it bud - and thanks for chipping in your two. I'm going to have to quick post some of the other tracks for vocal level check now. :D

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

That's three for pulling back the lead vocal. This is why I post. The input from additional ears is invaluable. My judgement is pretty good, but I'm human and my ears fatigue like anyone. Unsurprised the percussion might have wandered slightly. We were pretty sauced when we recorded it. :D

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

Great mention - and thanks bud! I left them really dry and intimate intentionally - but questioned the decision. I got the doubled vocal idea after listening to a Beatles recording. It's a technique Martin used frequently.

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

Oh - and all the hand percussion was a separate drunken night w/ the drummer sometime later after we did the original bed. We drank a bunch of whiskey and just pulled shit out of his percussion bag. He'd ask "How about this?" and I'd tell him, "Fine - do it. I'll track it and we'll make mix...

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

The drummers vocals btw ... were added probably 6 months later here in Maine - when he popped up for a visit. He's got a higher range than I do and his voice is well suited for harmonizing with female vocals. I'd have stuck out like a sore thumb w/ my lower register male timber. Again, using the...

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

Drums were originally done live w/ a Mapex kit - as we tracked drums/bass/keys live to a click track. Two overheads (sm condensers), E200 on the snare, Sennheisers on the toms, Audix on the kick, SM57 on the hi hat. I then converted all the drums to midi and run a blend of live w/ augmented...

    Outrageous (about domestic abuse)

It's unusual for me to give up singing my own material, but this song I wrote for my high school girlfriend about her abusive relationship could not be delivered authentically by a man. My drummer said he knew of a woman who would be able to do a good job on it. I think she did a really good...

    Album share: "Retrospectful"

This is an all acoustic rock album - remixed and reassembled into a cohesive acoustic instrument singer-songwriter collection. There's ONE song on this album not yet finished. "Summer" needs a better bass part than I originally tracked myself. This is nothing more than a share. I'm pretty much...

    "Blame" (Caution: Woke)

What - no clicks at 1:38? :D I was using Waves CLA vocal plug pretty hard on the widening effect - and someone mentioned phase issues in my last post and I went, "Fuck. He's right." So, you know me. I had to go back and take it all down. But I didn't eliminate it entirely - and I KNOW how...

    "Blame" (Caution: Woke)

Perfect - and thank you! I will look into everything you caught and/or suggested. I LOVE when folks listen and muse on what occurs to them during the listen. Awesome and appreciated. K-

    "Blame" (Caution: Woke)

It's about what you think it's about. It's based on a story of a friend. The curious story of this production is it comes from three different recordings, amalgamated into a single piece. The last recording of it is the foundation. Notable are that the piece was tracked at my band's...

Ha - It worked! "Unfit for Consumption"

I pulled the soundfile. Thanks for all the comments! Really appreciated!

Ha - It worked! "Unfit for Consumption"

The music IS a hodge podge - which is why the collection is named accordingly. The vocal is ever so slightly phased to widen it. At times it is more noticeable than others. There's also a slight slap which can exacerbate the effect. Good ears. It's subtle.

Ha - It worked! "Unfit for Consumption"

Oh yeah it is - so thanks for slogging through even the first 2! It gets a bit more progressive as the album progresses.

Ha - It worked! "Unfit for Consumption"

I didn't think SC would even allow me to load a file that large, so I'm merely counting my blessings. Agreed in full that a song marker function would add great facility to maneuvering around the file. The "dated" synth is a design choice - just like the "melting background vocals" that are...

I hope it's ok that I make this point

Don't over complicate it. Whatever you do: If it sounds good, it is good. However you get there. AI is a tool. It is unlikely to sound good on its own because it has no clue how it sounds. It cannot judge itself for discernment of taste. It doesn't care. It does what it is taught to do and...

Ha - It worked! "Unfit for Consumption"

Same here, P. I used to just strap Ozone 9 across the two buss with a general setting I liked that would reasonably get me consistently in the ballpark I liked. It was always "close enough", but it was general purpose mastering in "one size fits all". I would mix w/ the GP mastering in place...
