What do people think of the Tascam 48-8 versus the 38-8? I have a chance to buy one locally and I had a hard time finding info on it. It does look very similar to the 38-8 but just a different color. Also does it come with built in Noise reduction? And what should I offer?

If I am looking for a 4 track reel to reel. I want Tascam. I want something that is newer. I want the widest tape path I can get. I DONT want to spend 1000's of dollars... Suggestions?

If I want to erase some 1/4" tapes to be a clean and new sounding as possible would i be better to just re-record over the entire tape or to take out the old Head Demangnitizer and use that on them. Or do both? Would the demagnetizer casue any permenant harm?
