    Lunchbox Preamps

You're recording vocals, acoustic and electric guitar and bass. Which mic pre's for the lunchbox would you rather have? And no, you can't have both, but you can have any mic you please. Great River MP-500NV or The API 512C.

    Upgrade Advice

I know this question gets asked a lot, but everyone's specific situation is different, so here goes... I've decided to upgrade from garage band to Logic. Sound files transfer directly, and using a Mac, so it seems the best choice for me. My M-Audio just crapped out, so I need a new firewire...

    Need help diagnosing a problem

I'm in the middle of recording some guitar tracks through ART MPA Gold Pre to ART VLA Compressor to M-Audio Firewire Solo into a Mac Powerbook G4. Things were going great for a few days, but now when I record I'm getting short bursts (maybe 0.25 seconds)of a really loud high pitched buzz in...

    Funny Noise in Monitors

Just got the Yamaha HS80M monitors and when I plug them in to the computer (Powerbook G4) I get this loud hiss that intermittently gives a high pitched buzz that sounds like radio interference. I've heard this is common in monitors. Any idea how to get rid of it? Everything is plugged in to a...

    Converting to Pro Tools

I want to upgrade my DAW to Pro Tools instead of garage band. If I do, can I continue to record through an M-Audio firewire interface, or do I need something like a digi 003? Any recs on how to proceed without spending more than I need to? Thanks, Zero

    Guitar recording revisited

I'm going to be recording to an Apple G4 Powerbook through pre, compressor, M-audio firewire solo. If I record guitar simultaneously with two mics into the firewire's two inputs, will it keep the two tracks separate, or just mix them together into one track? Anyone know? Am I going to need a...

    Recording Guitar

I'm going to be recording a Taylor acoustic/electric and I'm planning to record simultaneous tracks, one from a mic at the sound hole and one from the pickup, and then mix them differently to left and right channels to give it a more stereo sound. Anyone bored enough to offer any advice or...

    Compression/Pre Amp Question

I'd like to use an ART PRO VLA two channel compressor in my recording. This unit is labelled as a "tube levelling amplifier". Would it be of any benefit adding a pre amp to the signal chain, or would that be redundant? Any thoughts? Thanks
