Pretend you're working on a CD with a relatively small distribution (1000 copies) and a limited budget.
If I divide the recording process into 3 general phases:
Tracking
Mixing
Mastering
Please rank these in order of which you would give priority to doing at a pro studio (the lower priority...
The music club at my college is planning on making a CD. I have a few questions concerning management and recording of the project. There will be 10-15 bands/acts, most of which are mediocre musicians. I guess we will be recording it ourselves with our PCs and cheap mics (SM57 would be...
Special thanks to Bassman for playing bass on this tune.
I still don't have a name for it.

I was looking at this Mackie 1402VLZ.
It has a single switch on the back to turn the phantom power on and off.
I was wondering, what if I want to use both dynamic mics and condenser mics simultaneously?
For instance, what if I want to use a couple SM57's with a Rode NT1 to record a drum set...
I'm really dissatisfied with my MIDI bass sound for this song.
Anyone interested in playing a 'real' bass guitar for me? I'd play it myself but I don't own a bass, and the ones I have access to are all crap.
The song (with the MIDI bass) is here:

Here's an update of that song that I don't have a title for yet.

There's this kind of weird knocking sound in the begining of the mp3 that isn't present in the wav file.
Other than that, how does it sound...
Right now I'm using a SM57 to record audio. My setup is rather noisey. I'm not sure whether it's because of my cables or because of the electricity in my house. It's random, sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's soft. It is more prominent at night...
Source material: Analog stereo cassette recordings of a live show. Most of the show was unevenly balanced, most of the output is in the left channel with very little coming from the right.
Objective: To take these cassettes and master them to CD.
So far: I have sampled the cassette...

How's everyone doing? It's been a long time since I've posted anything up here. Been rather busy; and for some reason my ISP doesn't seem to like mp3.com. I can't download anything from there. So I can't download any mp3s...
Does anyone have this problem?
I'll be sitting around playing with SoundDiver and my POD( which is connected to the joystick/midi port on my sblive). I get a great sound which inspires an idea, so I want to record it.
So what do I do? I load Cakewalk Pro Audio! and guess what happens?
"You...
I've been trying to find the price of a guitar online for the past hour and I haven't been able to find anything!
Does anyone have any idea how much a Taylor 314-CE costs in the USA?
My mom is going to the states this week and I'm asking her to pick one of these babies up for me but I can't...
Is there a difference?
All of a sudden I'm hearing all about these 'audio interfaces' that seem to be the same thing as A/D converters but with a fancy name.
What are these things?
I've been a Cakewalk user for a couple years. I often use soundfonts. In cakewalk, there is a soundfont manager that makes it very easy to load and manage soundfonts.
Does Logic Audio have a soundfont manager? I haven't been able to find one.
How do you use soundfonts with Logic?
Does the CD-R media quality have anything to do with the quality of audio read from it?
In my experience, I haven't noticed a difference in audio quality whether I use good media (ie. Kodak) or shitty media (ie. no-name brands), but I've got a friend who
claims that when he uses cheap media he...
I just bought a new hard drive. So here's my current list.
(All IDE)
1. 7200rpm 15.3gb hard disk
2. 5400rpm 5.1gb hard disk
3. 20x cdrom drive
4. CD-RW drive
Anyone have any suggestions in terms of how to connect them(master/slave/primary/secondary) ?
Thanks
I know that this is 'homerecording.com' and not 'liverecording.com' but this is my favorite place to ask things.
Anyway, we do a lot of shows at school where we have to mic acoustic guitars. We've got SM57's. We always have trouble getting them sounding right. It's always too boomy and full...
Sometimes when I play a soundfont using either my midi keyboard or virtual piano and push 1 key, I hear 2 notes.
Let me try to clarify.
For instance, I load a soundfont into the memory and play that patch with either my midi keyboard or virtual piano. With the 'key' parameter set at 0, if I...
I have been plagued with a static-electricity-like sounding noise for the past... well as long as I can remember. The noise is only present from around 6pm until morning. I figured it must be a light or something, but the noise is still present even when all the lights in the house are off...
Has anyone had problems with this combination?
I can't get Logic to see my PC AV driver. I've downloaded all latest drivers from sblive.com. Next to PC AV driver it just says "no driver". Next to this there is a 'control panel' button but when I click it nothing happens.
It seems that it...
