Hi folks,
I'm looking for a good, affordable two-channel firewire or usb interface. I'm getting tired of telling my friends, "Well, you can hear my music if you come by my house someday" :)
My needs are simple. It would be nice if it can handle the -10db signal from my M-30 without needing to...
I'm starting a new thread on this topic, since the thread I posted yesterday was wiped out of existence in the database hiccup.
The Problem: Dupes made in my Tascam T-3000 duplicator are missing the left channel on the B side of the tape. This seems to be a problem with the master deck's read...
I'm looking for a splicing block. I've found these two on the Web:
@ US Recording Media
@ some other place
The big difference between the two is that the former costs $79 and the latter costs $33.95. Is there really any reason to purchase the more expensive one? I can't see why it would...
I just bought a case of 10 BASF 526 1/4" pancakes from eBay. I bought the tape under the assumption that it was similar enough to Ampex/Quantegy 456 / RMGI SM911.
I may have made a mistake here... I had intended to use this tape on either my 34b for multitracking or on my Otari MX-5050 MKIII-2...
I just scored 10 BASF pancakes for pretty darn cheap. Now, I need reels/flanges and boxes. Where should I go for this if I'm looking for a bargain?
I see cheap auctions on ebay for old Scotch reels, but no boxes. I just put an ad on Craigslist, too. Does anybody have any suggestions? Just...
Hey folks,
I haven't yet used the sidechain option on the 166xl in conjuction with the gate. I'm trying to figure out how to use it, so I apologize in advance if this post is a little confused.
What I want to do is use an external signal to gate another signal (naturally, right?). I'm making a...
OK, so I spent a lot of time learning about my equipment, and learning the "right" way to do a number of things that I was doing "wrong". My room mates' band played on Friday night and they left their gear in the living room. So, I picked out a few instruments and went to town.
Instruments...
A friend of mine offered the opportunity to be the "House Recordist" for an all-ages live music venue, housed in an arts space in San Jose. This means my gear will be taking a few short road trips in the near future.
I would really like to protect my tape deck. I was thinking that getting the...
I'm on the market for a mixdown deck, now that I've graduated to doing multitrack recording.
From what I have seen, the Tascam BR20 looks fantastic. There are a couple of other Tascam decks that I've seen that should be good for the purpose (I think I saw them in Vintage Texas' photo gallery)...
Hey folks,
I'm angry and scared! I think the duplicator I bought off eBay for $300 might be a big ol' boat anchor!
I haven't really used it much. It's the Kingdom One Touch ST. I attempted copying a cassette that I had copied from reel-to-reel, with the levels going as high as +3 (and...
Hello everyone,
I have a chance to pick up a Tascam M-30 mixer for pretty cheap. I've got a Tascam 34b and I think the two will go well together.
What are peoples' thoughts on the M-30? I see here that a few people like them, but can someone here "sell" me on the M-30?
Side note: I currently...
eBay link
This thing looks practically new. Is $675 + $54 for s&h a good price?
I'm very eager to get one of these (or a Tascam 34b, as I mentioned in another thread), and I want to make sure I don't just whip out my wallet on an impulse...
Hello,
I want to upgrade my current setup and get a better recorder. I'm highly skeptical of the recorders being sold on eBay since most of the sellers don't seem to have a clue about the condition of the items.
If you have one of these recorders and want to sell it, and know that the machine...
Hey folks,
So, I bought an Akai 1730D-SS (I think... it's at home right now) and there is a "dull roar" in one of the channels. It's not a matter of cleaning the heads - they're spic-and-span. There's an interval, and the noise repeats endlessly with even intervals. It sounds kind of like being...
I recently bought an OK-quality reel-to-reel deck that I want to use for mix-downs / masters for my cassette project. I'm interested in buying new tape manufactured by RMGI.
Quoted from US Recording's website:
Quantegy/AMPEX 456 >>>>>>>>>>RMGI SM911 or SM468
Quantegy/AMPEX 457 >>>>>>>>>>RMGI...
I got a new turntable this year, after a friend (ha ha) broke my old one. It's the Audio Technica AT-PL120. It's a pretty good turntable for the price!
Problem is, the needle blows. It makes all of my records sound terrible. Great turntable, but if you buy it new, be prepared to buy a new...
Is this even electrically possible?
Please pardon my ignorance, but I'm dying to know. Maybe on the RCA side, one wire could be attached to a ground of some sort?
I do a lot of live recordings and field recordings, and my current headphones don't block out enough of the noise around me to be useful enough for this purpose.
When I went shooting with my dad, we'd use really burly hearing protection, over-the-head style and they look a lot like headphones...
